Job summary

The Dufresne Group is seeking a Repair Technician to service furniture at our Edmonton Distribution Centre and in guests' homes. The role requires regional travel to Edmonton and surrounding areas, including Red Deer, with a company vehicle and gas card provided for work-related travel.

Based in Edmonton, you will inspect, repair, and restore furniture using refinishing, upholstery, painting and related techniques, while maintaining safety and inventory records; flexible schedule including

Qualifications

  • High School diploma with two years hands-on furniture repair experience.
  • Warehouse experience is an asset.
  • Good computer skills with Microsoft Office and in-house software.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's license with clean abstract.
  • Able to lift 50–100 pounds and work in varying temperatures.
  • Able to operate dock equipment and reach trucks as needed.
  • Flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect furniture to determine repairs or replacement parts.
  • Refinish, reupholster, paint and restore furniture to like-new condition.
  • Assist guests with in-home repairs with a friendly approach.
  • Follow WHMIS and safety rules in all tasks.
  • Document service reports and manage inventory data.
  • Support the Quality Control process and PIT documentation.
  • Keep the service vehicle clean and stocked with materials.
  • Attend training sessions on furniture service topics.
  • Inspect and validate repair parts before use.

Description

Are you a pro at fixing and refinishing furniture? Are you ready to take on a role at our bustling distribution center and in our guest's homes? If so, we want you to join our team!

We are looking for a Repair Technician who is flexible and able to travel for overnight trips during the work week to support our operations throughout Edmonton and surrounding areas, including Red Deer. This role will be based in Edmonton but requires regular regional travel and occasional overnight stays based on business needs. To support this travel, a company vehicle and gas card will be provided, ensuring you have the resources needed to safely and efficiently serve our teams and Guests across the region.

As the Furniture Service Technician you will have the opportunity to:
  • Inspect furniture to determine if it needs parts replaced or if it’s repairable to top-notch condition.
  • Work your magic to restore damaged furniture to like-new conditions within a set timeframe, using proven techniques, including refinishing, reupholstery, painting, etc. This includes wood, fabric, leather, and metal pieces.
  • Support guests with in-home repairs in a friendly and helpful way, listening to their needs and questions and responding quickly.
  • Understand and follow all safe work practices and rules, including WHMIS.
  • Document and complete service reports and paperwork, including inventory control information.
  • Support the Quality Control Coordinator in the completion of Product Issue Tracking (PIT)
  • Keep your service vehicle clean, organized, and stocked with repair materials, and communicate any issues (mechanical or otherwise) on the service vehicles.
  • Attend training on furniture service topics.
  • Inspect and validate the repair parts.
What we're looking for:
  • High School diploma with two years of hands-on experience in furniture repair, including upholstery, leather repairs, and wood refinishing. Experience with other materials and color matching is a plus!
  • Previous warehouse experience is an asset.
  • Good computer skills with working knowledge of Microsoft Office products and the ability to learn in-house computer programs, including the in-house inventory management system.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Some exposure to working with solvents is an asset.
  • Good physical condition with ability to lift and carry objects of 50-100 pounds.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's license with clean driver's abstract.
  • Able to conduct physical work in warm and cold conditions.
  • Ability to operates various equipment (dock levellers, hand trucks, cardboard baler and reach truck, etc.)
  • Comfortable with flexible schedule requirements, including evenings and weekends.
