Job summary

The City of Vancouver is seeking a Security Attendant I at The Gathering Place Community Centre in the Downtown South to help maintain a safe, welcoming and inclusive space for the public and staff. Shifts vary 7:30AM–8:30PM, Monday through Sunday, with active engagement and incident reporting.

A Police Record Check is required; pay grade CCPG13 ranges from $28.83 to $33.75 per hour. Join a committed public service team delivering equitable access to services.

Qualifications

• Completion of Grade 10 (Grade 12 preferred).
• Knowledge of the Downtown Southside and Downtown Eastside communities, local agencies, and services.
• Considerable knowledge of the Gathering Place Community Centre's rules, services and operations.
• Experience working in a community, social service or health care environment would be an asset.
• Occupational First Aid Level I certification or the ability to obtain one would be an asset.
• Fluency in a second language would be an asset.
• Basic Security Training (BST) would be an asset.

Responsibilities

• Monitoring entrances and facilitating access control of the facilities.
• Monitoring and upholding the Centre’s Code of Conduct and ensuring standards of behaviour are observed.
• Conducting regular patrols of the building.
• Responding to incidents of concern, such as verbal abuse, threats, physical aggression and violence.
• De-escalating and resolving conflicts through appropriate intervention techniques.
• Providing support in emergencies including first aid and overdose response.
• Assisting patrons with information and referrals to services and activities.
• Front desk clerical tasks as needed (phones, mail, data entry).
• Communicating incident information via log entries, reports and emails.
• Documenting security incidents using the Resolver Security Incident management system.
• Communicating effectively using a two-way radio.
• Maintaining health and safety standards.
• Upholding occupational health and safety policies.
• Performing janitorial and other duties as required.
