Job summary

Canadian North seeks an experienced First Officer to join our crew and support a diverse network across the Arctic and continental Canada from bases including Ottawa. You’ll operate with a strong emphasis on safety and service while following our SOPs and TC requirements.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma is required.
• 750 hours total time or 250 hours for aviation degree grads.
• CPL with IATRA or SARON and SAMRA exams is required.
• TC Category 1 Medical Certificate is required.
• Legally entitled to work in Canada.
• Valid passport or PR card if not a Canadian passport.
• Ability to obtain an Airport Restricted Area Identity Card.

Responsibilities

• Operate as First Officer under Chief Pilot on type.
• Adhere to Canadian North SOP and safety policies.
• Ensure safety of passengers, crew, and aircraft; communicate hazards and risks.
• Complete Transport Canada PPC filing and checks.

About the position

Whether landing on a gravel runway, or travelling coast to coast to coast, being a Pilot for Canadian North is a job like no other. The variety of a robust scheduled passenger and cargo network throughout the Canadian Arctic combined with a diverse charter program allows our Pilots to see and experience it all.

Canadian North operates a versatile and well-equipped fleet consisting of the 737 Classic and NG series as well as the ATR 42 and 72. Our 737 operations are based out of Calgary, Edmonton and Ottawa. While our ATR operations are based out of Yellowknife and Ottawa. Ottawa-based ATR pilots will generally be deployed to support our operations in Iqaluit with 6-14-day pairings.

Key Responsibilities

Interested candidates should be able to perform the following duties and responsibilities:

• The First Officer (second-in-command) is responsible to the Chief Pilot (on type) for the safe operation of the aircraft and the safety of all persons on board during flight;
• The flight will be conducted in accordance with Canadian North SOP;
• The First Officer will ensure the safety of passengers, crew and aircraft by adhering to the Canadian North safety policy and utilizing the appropriate safety reporting program in order to identify and communicate all known hazards and risks to the organization and ensure continual improvement through the periodic review of documented processes;
• The first officer must be properly qualified by the Company and successfully complete a Transport Canada Pilot Proficiency Check (PPC).

Qualifications

Include, but not limited to, the following minimum skills and qualifications:

• High School Diploma;
• 750 hours total time or 250 hours total time for graduates of a recognized aviation degree/diploma program (or similar);
• Transport Canada Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL) with completion of either a valid IATRA or SARON and SAMRA exams;
• Valid Transport Canada Category 1 Medical Certificate;
• Legally entitled to work in Canada;
• Current valid passport or Canadian Permanent Resident Card if you are not a holder of a Canadian passport;
• All required visas or travel documents allowing you to freely travel unrestricted;
• Ability to communicate in Inuktut a definite asset;
• Ability to obtain and retain an Airport Restricted Area Identity Card in accordance with the Airport Restricted Area Access Clearance Program regulated by Transport Canada.

Pilots that reside more than one hundred and fifty kilometers (150 km) from their Base will be reimbursed up to five hundred dollars ($500.00) per direction to a maximum of two thousand dollars ($2000.00) per month to assist with the cost of travel from their home to their Base or assigned work location.
