Job summary

Canadian North is seeking a Ramp Attendant in Yellowknife to operate within a safe, procedural framework. You will support ground services, assist with cargo handling, and aid passengers as needed.

The role reports to the Cargo & Ramp Manager and runs under the UNIFOR agreement, with a starting pay rate of 21.50 per hour plus a Northern Living Allowance of 5.14 per hour. Applicants must be able to obtain a D/A airport pass, hold a valid G2 or G license, and be prepared for irregular shifts

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent related work experience.
  • One year of previous experience.
  • Knowledge of cargo handling and processing procedures.
  • Knowledge and experience of loading and load control on company aircraft.
  • Weight and balance knowledge and experience.
  • Familiarity with Cargo Computer Program, Sabre and related manuals.
  • Must be able to obtain a dangerous goods handling certificate.
  • Valid G2 or G (Class 5) driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Follow the company-s Standard Operating Procedures without deviation.
  • Promote a safe working culture.
  • Provide services to the aircraft on the ground as required.
  • Assist Customer Service Agents and Cargo Attendants when needed.
  • Assist passengers with mobility and special needs.
  • Complete daily vehicle/equipment checklists.
  • Maintain qualifications on ramp equipment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

About this position

The purpose of a Ramp Attendant is to work within the parameters of a safe working culture while taking direction and guidance from the Ramp Coordinator. The Ramp Attendant will be responsible to ensure that they follow the companies Standard Operating Procedures without deviation and promote a safe working culture within its group.

Level: As per the UNIFOR Collective Agreement.

Pay Rate: Starting at $21.50 per hour, in accordance with the UNIFOR Collective Agreement, or commensurate with experience. Employees are also eligible for a Northern Living Allowance of $5.14 per hour.

Reporting to: Manager, Cargo & Ramp

Please note this is a temporary position ending approximately August 17, 2027.

Duties and Responsibilities

Interested candidates should be able to perform the following duties and responsibilities:

  • Follow the companies Standard Operating Procedures without deviation;
  • Promote a safe working culture;
  • Provide services to the aircraft on the ground as required;
  • Assist Customer Service Agents and/or Cargo Attendants if so required ;
  • Assist passengers with mobility and special needs;
  • Perform commissary duties as part of the specialized work function;
  • Completion of daily vehicle/equipment checklist;
  • Required to be qualified and maintain qualification on all ramp equipment;
  • Perform other duties and functions related to the foregoing;
  • Other duties as assigned.
Skills and Qualifications

Include, but not limited to, the following minimum skills and qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent related work experience
  • One (1) year of previous experience
  • Must be knowledgeable of cargo handling and processing procedures;
  • Knowledge and experience of loading and load control on company aircraft;
  • Weight & balance knowledge and experience necessary;
  • Knowledge of Canadian North’s Cargo Computer Program, Cargo Ramp Procedures Manual and Sabre;
  • Must be familiar with handling of dangerous goods and be able to obtain and retain a dangerous goods handling certificate;
  • Must hold a valid G2 or G (Class 5) driver’s license;
  • Demonstrated strong communication, organizational, problem solving & interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to accomplish multiple tasks in high pressure, high volume environment;
  • Forklift driving experience an asset;
  • Must be able to obtain and retain a D/A level airport pass;
  • Ability to communicate in Inuktitut a definite asset;
  • Ability to obtain and retain an Airport Restricted Area Identity Card in accordance with the Airport Restricted Area Access Clearance Program regulated by Transport Canada.

Please note: This job entails irregular hours, including weekends, holidays, and shift work. Shift schedules will be bid in order of seniority. As a result, we cannot provide you with a schedule around your current job, school schedule, activities, etc. You are however able to shift trade with your colleagues- but you are responsible for the shifts that you are scheduled.
