The Field Service Technician (Edmonton) provides 24/7 on-call field service support, troubleshooting, and training at customer locations on mechanical and electrical components of Decanters, High-Speed Separators, and Plate Heat Exchangers to ensure reliable operation, optimal performance, and efficiency. Responsibilities include preventive maintenance, emergency and warranty repairs, installation supervision, commissioning, system audits, process troubleshooting, technical support, and working independently to minimize customer downtime while managing travel and operating expenses. The technician also promotes upgrades, parts, and services to grow the aftermarket business and must possess strong verbal and written communication skills.

Job duties and responsibilities :

1. Provide on-site service, investigating and resolving technical problems on mechanical and electrical components of Alfa Laval equipment.
2. Install, configure, modify, overhaul, fault diagnose, and repair products and systems purchased by customers.
3. Perform trial test runs post-service to ensure performance and quality meet specifications.
4. Document serviced equipment, parts used, travel/site hours, and expenses for invoicing.
5. Advise operators and maintenance personnel on safe operating procedures around equipment.
6. Perform preventive maintenance on customer equipment.
7. Assist customer maintenance personnel with troubleshooting techniques.
8. Train customer personnel on operation and maintenance of equipment.
9. Proactively visit customers to develop new relationships and maintain current ones.
10. Review upcoming service visits and customer requests to ensure excellent service.
11. Recommend replacement parts, system upgrades, and reliability improvements via phone or in person.
12. Prepare service reports detailing findings, work performed, and recommendations.
13. Manage travel arrangements and expenses.
14. Provide daily activity reports to the Field Service Manager.
15. Adhere to Alfa Laval standards and ISO9001, QHSE requirements.
16. Work platform/offshore as required.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATION / REGISTRATION DESIRED

Technical diploma in mechanical or electrical focus, vocational training, or Journeyman status. Alternatively, 5-10 years of industrial mechanical or electrical experience demonstrating proficiency.

Experience :

• Minimum 3-5 years with heat exchangers and/or separation equipment.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Attributes :

• Experience with heat transfer systems and separation equipment.
• Hands-on knowledge of mechanical equipment for troubleshooting and guidance.
• Strong listening, communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
• Customer relationship skills with influencing and negotiating abilities.
• High energy, initiative, and a sense of urgency.
• Integrity and safety consciousness.
• Ability to use measuring devices and read electrical schematics and P&ID diagrams.
• Ability to troubleshoot and work independently.

Other Requirements :

• Qualification for offshore/platform work.
• Ability to travel internationally without restrictions.
• Comfort working at heights up to 50 ft with proper safety gear.
