Job summary

American Iron & Metal (AIM) in Hamilton is seeking a dedicated Inspector to join our Ferrous team. The role focuses on thorough inspections of incoming and outgoing materials, ensuring quality standards and specifications are met.

Shift times are Monday-Friday on a rotating bi-weekly basis: 6:30am-3pm and 12:30pm-9pm. You will identify non-conforming materials, use scales, calipers, and magnet testers, and coordinate with operations to move and store materials in the yard.

Qualifications

• Experience in a similar role within metal recycling is desirable.
• Knowledge of ferrous and non-ferrous metals and contaminants.
• Familiarity with measurement/inspection tools such as scales, calipers, magnet testers.
• Ability to work in a physically demanding environment, lifting/moving heavy objects.
• Proficient with computer systems for data entry and record keeping.
• Ability to work in heavy industrial settings and endure weather conditions.

Responsibilities

• Conduct thorough inspections of incoming and outgoing materials to ensure quality.
• Identify and segregate non-conforming materials and contaminants.
• Use scales, calipers, magnet testers to verify weight, dimensions, composition.
• Coordinate movement and storage of materials with the operations team.

What you’re responsible for:

• Conducting thorough inspections of incoming and outgoing materials to ensure compliance with quality standards and specifications
• Identify and segregating non-conforming materials, such as contaminants or prohibited items
• Utilizing appropriate tools and equipment to measure and verify the weight, dimensions, and composition materials
• Collaborating with the operations team to coordinate the movement and storage of materials within the yard
• Communicating and reporting any deviations from quality standards

Qualifications

To join our team:

• You have previous experience in a similar role within the metal recycling industry, specifically in materials inspection, is highly desirable
• You have knowledge of ferrous and non-ferrous metals, their properties, and common contaminants or impurities
• You have familiarity with relevant tools and equipment used for measurement and inspection, such as scales, callipers, magnet testers, etc.
• You have the ability to work in a physically demanding environment, including lifting and moving heavy objects
• You have proficient in using computer systems and software for data entry and record keeping
• You are comfortable working in a heavy industrial environment and being exposed to various weather conditions
