Job summary

AIM is seeking a dedicated Inspector to join our Ferrous team in Hamilton, Ontario. The role starts at CAD26.50/hr with overtime after 44 hours and features a full-time permanent contract, vacation, benefits, and RRSP matching.

Shifts run Monday-Friday on a rotating bi-weekly schedule: 6:30am-3pm and 12:30pm-9pm. Responsibilities include inspecting incoming and outgoing materials for grades and quality, ensuring compliance with specifications, coordinating yard movement, and performing daily

Qualifications

• Experience in a similar role within metal recycling is desirable.
• Knowledge of ferrous and non-ferrous metals, their properties and contaminants.
• Familiarity with inspection tools such as scales, calipers, magnet testers.
• Ability to work in a physically demanding environment and lift heavy objects.
• Proficient using computer systems for data entry and records.

Responsibilities

• Inspect incoming and outgoing materials to identify grades and quality issues.
• Ensure materials meet company and customer quality specs.
• Coordinate movement and proper handling of materials within the yard.
• Complete daily quality and site checks, including pile quality and vehicle inspections.
• Communicate quality concerns to Operations, Supervisors, and Commercial teams.
• Direct inbound trucks to yard locations safely and efficiently.
• Support training of inspection team members on quality, procedures and safety.

Job Description

We are currently seeking a dedicated Inspector to join our Ferrous team. The shift times areMonday-Friday, on a rotating bi-weekly shift basis of6:30am-3pm and 12:30pm-9pm.This position requires strong attention to detail, knowledge of ferrous/non ferrous metals, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

What you're responsible for:

• Inspecting incoming and outgoing materials to identify grades, quality issues, contaminants, and non-conforming or hazardous materials.
• Ensuring materials meet company and customer quality specifications.
• Coordinating the movement, sorting, and proper handling of materials within the yard.
• Completing daily quality and site checks, including pile quality, truck inspections, and overnight loads.
• Communicating quality concerns, downgrades, deductions, and required actions to Operations, Supervisors, and Commercial teams.
• Directing inbound trucks to the appropriate yard locations safely and efficiently.
• Supporting the training of Inspection Team members and external teams on quality, procedures, and safety.

Qualifications

To join our team:

• You have previous experience in a similar role within the metal recycling industry, specifically in materials inspection, is highly desirable
• You have knowledge of ferrous and non-ferrous metals, their properties, and common contaminants or impurities
• You have familiarity with relevant tools and equipment used for measurement and inspection, such as scales, callipers, magnet testers, etc.
• You have the ability to work in a physically demanding environment, including lifting and moving heavy objects
• You have proficientin using computer systems and software for data entry and record keeping
• You are comfortable working in a heavy industrial environment and being exposed to various weather conditions
