Blackline Civil Inc. is seeking an experienced Excavator Operator for civil construction projects across Alberta. You will perform trenching, utility installation, and precise excavation around live utilities while following grade stakes and site plans. Safety, accuracy, and teamwork are essential in this role.

Ideal candidates have 2+ years of excavator experience in underground or civil work, proficiency with utility coordination, and a strong commitment to safety practices on site.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of excavator experience in underground or civil construction.
• Proven experience working around live utilities.
• Strong understanding of trenching and excavation safety practices.
• Ability to read grade stakes, plans, and utility drawings.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Ground disturbance certification.

Responsibilities

• Operate excavators for trenching, backfilling, grading, and utility installation.
• Safely expose existing underground utilities.
• Work around live gas, electrical, water, and telecom lines.
• Follow grade stakes, trench depths, and site plans with precision; coordinate with pipe layers and supervisors.
• Conduct daily pre-trip inspections and routine equipment maintenance.
• Maintain trench safety per regulations (shoring, sloping, benching).
• Ensure all work complies with safety standards and project specs.

About the Role

We’re looking for a skilled and safety-driven Excavator Operator with experience in underground construction. In this role, you’ll be responsible for precise excavation around live utilities and installation of underground infrastructure such as water, sewer, and storm systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate excavators for trenching, backfilling, grading, and utility installation
• Safely expose existing underground utilities
• Work around live gas, electrical, water, and telecom lines
• Follow grade stakes, trench depths, and site plans with precisionCoordinate closely with pipe layers, labourers, and supervisors
• Conduct daily pre-trip inspections and routine equipment maintenance
• Maintain trench safety in compliance with regulations (shoring, sloping, benching)
• Ensure all work is performed according to safety standards and project specs
