Skwah First Nation is seeking a reliable and motivated Event Coordinator to provide operational and logistical support for community events. This is a part-time, permanent position located at the Skwah First Nation Band Office in Chilliwack, BC.
Under the direction of the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), the Event Coordinator will be responsible for setup, coordination, and breakdown of official Skwah Band Office events and programs. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent organizational skills, strong communication abilities, and a commitment to delivering smooth, well-run events that reflect the values and culture of Skwah First Nation.
The Event Coordinator will play a vital role in ensuring the success of community gatherings, programs, and special events.
Duties And Responsibilities
- Transport, set up, and break down event equipment such as tables, chairs, signage, and décor.
- Pick up and drop off supplies, catering, and rental items as directed.
- Conduct pre-event site checks and oversee post-event cleanup.
- Open, monitor, and lock up event spaces as required.
- Assist with vendor and supplier communications, including confirmations and scheduling.
- Maintain and organize event inventory and storage areas.
- Distribute event materials such as programs, name tags, and surveys.
- Staff registration and check-in tables during events.
- Direct attendees and vendors to designated areas and provide onsite support.
- Troubleshoot minor onsite issues, including seating arrangements or supply needs.
- Research venues and vendors as requested.
- Collect and compile event feedback for review by supervisors.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief Administrative Officer.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- 1 year of experience in event support, retail, or hospitality (preferred).
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Valid driver’s license (Class 5 preferred).
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods.
- Flexible schedule availability, with occasional evening and weekend work required.
- Neat in appearance, outgoing, friendly, and cooperative personality.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and follow Skwah First Nation’s policies and procedures.
- Knowledge, respect, and understanding of Stó:lō culture, traditions, and language is considered an asset.
- Experience working with First Nations communities is considered an asset.
- Satisfactory Criminal Record Check.
Compensation
The position offers a competitive compensation package with tax exemption for eligible candidates, with salary dependent upon education and experience.
Working Hours and Schedule
- Flexible hours with varying schedules depending on event needs.
- Occasional evenings and weekends required.

- Must be able to reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required).
