Job summary

PCL Construction Management Inc. in Calgary, Alberta, is seeking an Estimating Student for a 4–16 month term starting January 2027. This role offers hands-on involvement with innovative infrastructure projects and exposure to quantity surveying under the Chief Estimator.

The position emphasizes learning PCL’s estimating manuals and systems, while developing relations with subcontractors and participating in bid day activities. Prior field construction experience is a definite asset.

Qualifications

• Candidates must have a strong desire to work in a construction environment and prior field construction experience will be considered an asset.
• Application of various computer software programs will be required, including word processing, spreadsheet applications and drafting.

Responsibilities

• Reviewing quantity survey assignment with lead estimator or Chief Estimator.
• Performing assigned quantity survey tasks.
• Giving quantities of major purchase items to purchasing department for pricing.
• Transferring quantities to lead estimator.
• Bid document control.
• Performing bid day assignments.
• Visiting job sites periodically.
• Developing relationships with subcontractors.
• Other duties as assigned by the Chief Estimator.
