Job summary

PCL Construction Management Inc. is seeking an Estimating Student for the Edmonton Buildings district in Edmonton, Alberta. Engineering students from civil and mechanical backgrounds are invited to apply for a 4–12 month term starting January 2027. You will gain hands-on estimating experience and work with a supportive team.

Selected candidates will participate in mentorship, receive competitive weekly pay and access benefits, and have clear career pathways within PCL’s network.

Qualifications

• Interest in working in a construction environment.
• Familiarity with basic drafting and spreadsheet tools.
• Engineering student in civil or mechanical disciplines available for 4–12 months.

Responsibilities

• Understand and apply estimating manuals, systems, and forms.
• Review quantity survey assignments with lead estimator or Chief Estimator.
• Perform assigned quantity survey tasks.
• Provide quantities of major items for pricing.
• Transfer quantities to lead estimator.
• Assist with bid document control.
• Perform bid day assignments.
• Visit job sites periodically.
• Build relationships with subcontractors.
• Take on other duties as assigned by the Chief Estimator.

Responsibilities

• Understanding and utilizing PCL’s estimating manuals, systems and forms
• Reviewing quantity survey assignment with lead estimator or Chief Estimator

• Transferring quantities to lead estimator
• Bid document control
• Performing bid day assignments

Qualifications

• Candidates must have a strong desire to work in a construction environment and prior field construction experience will be considered an asset.
• Application of various computer software programs will be required, including word processing, spreadsheet applications and drafting.
