Job summary

Aerotek in Nepean, Ontario is seeking an Equipment Mechanic for the overnight shift to respond to equipment issues, perform preventative maintenance, and support capital projects. The role requires attention to safety and reliability in a highly regulated production environment.

You will diagnose and repair production equipment, review work orders, use AutoCAD drawings, and coordinate with operators and other teams. This contract position starts at 6 months with extension potential.

Qualifications

  • At least 1 year of experience performing preventative maintenance and repair on manufacturing or production equipment.
  • Hands-on experience in production, packaging, or general production environments.
  • Basic knowledge of programmable logic controllers (PLCs) to assist in troubleshooting automated equipment.
  • Basic soldering skills for equipment repair and maintenance tasks.
  • Ability to read and work from technical drawings and schematics created in AutoCAD.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair manufacturing and production equipment to minimize downtime and maintain consistent output.
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance on production, packaging, and general manufacturing equipment, following established schedules and procedures.
  • Review, execute, and close work orders accurately in the maintenance system, documenting work performed and parts used.
  • Support capital projects by assisting with equipment installations, modifications, and upgrades as required.
  • Interpret and work from technical drawings and schematics prepared in AutoCAD to guide maintenance and repair activities.
  • Use basic PLC knowledge to support troubleshooting of automated equipment and control systems under guidance of more technical resources when needed.
  • Perform basic soldering tasks as needed for equipment repair and maintenance.
  • Prioritize maintenance tasks effectively, balancing urgent repairs with scheduled preventative work, and clearly explain priorities and status to multiple teams.
  • Use computer systems to track work orders, record completed tasks, and monitor daily key performance indicators (KPIs).

Job Title: Equipment Mechanic – Overnight Shift

Shifts: overnight shift (10:00 PM - 6:00 AM).

Pay Rate: $24/hour

Contract: Initial 6-month contract with a strong possibility of extension

Job Description

The equipment mechanic works as the primary technician on the overnight shift, responding to equipment issues that operators cannot resolve and ensuring that production equipment runs safely and reliably. When not troubleshooting active problems, this role focuses on preventative maintenance, work orders, and capital project support to keep a highly regulated production facility operating efficiently.

Responsibilities
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair manufacturing and production equipment to minimize downtime and maintain consistent output.

  • Perform routine preventative maintenance on production, packaging, and general manufacturing equipment, following established schedules and procedures.

Essential Skills
  • At least 1 year of experience performing preventative maintenance and repair on manufacturing or production equipment.

  • Hands-on experience working in production, packaging, or general production environments.

  • Basic knowledge of programmable logic controllers (PLCs) to assist in troubleshooting automated equipment.

  • Basic soldering skills for equipment repair and maintenance tasks.

  • Ability to read and work from technical drawings and schematics created in AutoCAD.

  • Ability to move and stand for an 8-hour shift while working on and around equipment.

  • Ability to prioritize tasks effectively and clearly explain the order of work to multiple teams.

  • Ability to use computer systems for tracking work orders and monitoring daily key performance indicators (KPIs).

  • Comfort working around blood bags and materials that may produce small or occasional odors.

  • Strong troubleshooting skills and a methodical approach to diagnosing mechanical and basic electrical issues.

  • Clear communication skills to coordinate with operators, production staff, and other departments

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Nepean, ON.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $29.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
