Aerotek is seeking a Lead Material Handling Equipment (MHE) Technician/Mechanic in Calgary to oversee a small team, perform hands-on maintenance, and repair forklifts, pallet jacks, dockstockers, and related warehouse equipment.

You will manage daily tasks, guide technicians, and ensure safety and equipment reliability in a high-activity warehouse. The role requires strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting and leadership capabilities.

Qualifications

  • Experience leading technicians or a small maintenance team.
  • Proven experience troubleshooting electric and propane-powered MHE.
  • Ability to read, interpret and follow safety standards and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and support a team of technicians (6–7), providing guidance and direction.
  • Assign, track, and complete daily repair, maintenance and inspection tasks.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electric and propane-powered MHE (forklifts, pallet jacks).
  • Diagnose motors, controllers, lift chains, forks and bearings on MHE.
  • Ensure safety standards are met before returning equipment to service.

Job Title: Lead Material Handling Equipment (MHE) Technician / Mechanic
Job Description

The Lead Material Handling Equipment (MHE) Technician will oversee and support a small team of technicians while performing hands‑on maintenance and repair of forklifts, pallet jacks, dockstockers, and other warehouse equipment. This role combines technical expertise with day‑to‑day leadership responsibilities to ensure all material handling equipment operates safely, efficiently, and reliably in a high‑activity warehouse environment.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and support a team of approximately 6–7 technicians, providing guidance, coaching, and technical direction.
  • Assign and track daily repair, maintenance, and inspection tasks to ensure work is completed accurately and on time.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electric and propane‑powered material handling equipment, including forklifts, pallet jacks, and related machinery.
  • Diagnose and repair motors, controllers, lift chains, forks, bearings, and other mechanical and electrical components on MHE.
  • Conduct thorough inspections and ensure all repairs meet safety and operational standards before equipment is returned to service.
  • Oversee and participate in equipment overhauls, ensuring quality workmanship and adherence to manufacturer guidelines.
  • Use appropriate hand tools and test equipment to perform mechanical and electrical diagnostics and repairs.
  • Coordinate with warehouse and operations leadership to prioritize work orders and keep equipment available to meet operational demands.
  • Communicate clearly with managers and team members about equipment status, repair timelines, and any safety concerns.
  • Assist with setup and commissioning of new equipment, including upgrades and modifications as needed.
  • Support battery maintenance activities, including inspection, charging, and basic repairs to ensure reliable power for electric equipment.
  • Maintain accurate records of repairs, preventive maintenance, parts usage, and completed work in the designated tracking systems.
  • Promote and enforce safe work practices within the team, ensuring compliance with safety procedures and guidelines.
  • Adapt to occasional evening or weekend work requirements to support business needs and critical repairs.
Essential Skills
  • Proven experience performing preventive maintenance on reach trucks, dockstockers, and center riders, including Crown equipment.
  • Hands‑on experience troubleshooting and repairing electric and propane‑powered material handling equipment such as forklifts and pallet jacks.
  • Demonstrated ability to repair and overhaul motors, controllers, lift chains, forks, bearings, and other key components on MHE.
  • Experience leading technicians or a small maintenance team, including task assignment and oversight.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve issues efficiently.
  • Proficiency using hand tools and related equipment for mechanical and electrical repair work.
  • Ability to ensure all repairs meet safety standards and equipment is safe to return to service.
  • Effective communication skills to coordinate with managers and team members in a busy warehouse environment.
  • Capability to maintain accurate documentation of maintenance activities, parts usage, and completed work.
  • Physical ability to perform hands‑on work, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods in a warehouse setting.

Work Environment

You will work with a variety of material handling equipment, including forklifts, pallet jacks, dockstockers, and related systems, using hand tools and diagnostic equipment to perform repairs and preventive maintenance in a safety‑focused environment.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $83000.00 - $92000.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job‑related factors.
