Job summary

COMPASS GROUP CANADA seeks an Environmental Services Manager to lead housekeeping, laundry, and facility maintenance in a long-term care home. You will oversee building systems, conduct training, and ensure safety and infection control programs are in place.

Qualifications

• Post-secondary education an asset.
• Three years of management experience in healthcare, facilities, environmental services or related.
• Working knowledge of building operations, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, preventative maintenance, and contractor management.
• Experience in long-term care, healthcare facilities management, building operations, property maintenance, or operating engineering environments is strongly preferred.
• Demonstrated leadership experience in a unionized environment.
• Ability to work in a highly hands-on role requiring regular movement throughout the facility, including climbing stairs and accessing rooftop mechanical equipment when required.
• Building Environmental Systems (BES), Operating Engineer certification, or a related facilities maintenance designation is considered an asset.
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Proficient computer skills, specifically with Windows.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership and oversight for housekeeping, laundry, and facility maintenance services in the long-term care home.
• Oversee facility maintenance operations, monitoring HVAC, plumbing, electrical, life safety, and preventive programs.
• Coordinate annual training calendar for housekeeping and laundry staff.
• Submit monthly Compass Quality Assurance Program summary to leadership and client.
• Conduct weekly quality assurance audits and follow-up with staff.
• Review routines and systems for continuous quality improvement in housekeeping and laundry.
• Ensure Compass Health and Safety program, including first aiders and OH&S committee, is in place.
• Participate in Health and Safety Committee activities.
• Attend client meetings as applicable to housekeeping and laundry areas.
• Ensure staff are trained in infection control programs.
• Interact with vendors relating to housekeeping and laundry services.
• Recruit, hire, and manage performance of housekeeping and laundry staff.
• Participate in budgeting and financial management of housekeeping and laundry.
• Implement Compass HR programs (CHAT, Be-A-Star, HERO, Weekly Safety Minders).
• Complete accident investigation forms and recommend safety programs.
• Recommend equipment and supplies for housekeeping and laundry operations.
• Conduct daily maintenance activities and some outdoor winter tasks.
• Act as liaison with Environmental Public Health Officer and regulatory bodies.
