Job summary

Compass Group Canada is hiring an Environmental Services Manager to lead housekeeping, laundry, and facility maintenance in a long-term care setting. You will oversee operations, monitor HVAC, plumbing, electrical and life-safety systems to ensure safety, compliance and resident-focused services.

You will train staff, manage budgets, coordinate vendors, and participate in health and safety programs, audits, and client meetings.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education is an asset.
  • Three years of management experience in healthcare, facilities, environmental services or related.
  • Experience with building operations (HVAC, plumbing, electrical) and contractor management.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and operational oversight for housekeeping, laundry, and facility maintenance services in the long-term care home.
  • Oversee facility maintenance operations, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, life safety and preventive maintenance programs.
  • Conduct annual training calendar for housekeeping and laundry staff and coordinate trainings.
  • Submit monthly summaries of Compass Quality Assurance Program to leadership and client.
  • Conduct weekly quality assurance audits and follow-up with staff.
  • Review routines and systems to drive continuous quality improvement.
  • Ensure Health and Safety program, train first aiders, and participate in OH&S committee.
  • Attend client meetings and liaise with Environmental Public Health and regulatory bodies.
  • Recruit, hire, and manage performance of housekeeping and laundry staff; participate in budgeting.
  • Participate in budgeting and financial management of housekeeping and laundry departments.
  • Ensure HR programs (CHAT, Be-A-Star, HERO, Weekly Safety Minders) are in place.
  • Complete accident investigations and recommend safety programs for staff.
  • Recommend equipment and supplies for operations.
  • Daily hands-on maintenance including floor care and seasonal snow removal.
  • Lead liaison with regulatory bodies and contribute to Balanced Scorecard for the unit.

Job description

The salary range for this position is $60,000 to $65,000. Final compensation will be determined based on relevant skills, experience, qualifications, and internal equity. In addition to base salary, eligible employees may be entitled to other elements of total compensation, which may include group benefits, employer RRSP contributions, and discretionary bonus or incentive programs, where applicable to the role. We are committed to offering competitive compensation and comply with all applicable pay transparency legislation.   • Provide overall leadership and operational oversight for housekeeping, laundry, and facility maintenance services within the long-term care home, ensuring a safe, clean, compliant, and resident-focused environment.
  • Provide hands-on oversight of facility maintenance operations, including monitoring building systems such as HVAC, plumbing, electrical, life safety, and preventative maintenance programs.
  • Implement and conduct training sessions and coordinate an annual training calendar at site for all housekeeping and laundry staff.
  • Complete a monthly summary of the completed Compass Quality Assurance Program and submit to the District Manager, Regional Director, Unit Manager and client.
  • Conduct weekly quality assurance audits in housekeeping and laundry and follow-up with the staff, including keeping the manager involved as needed.
  • Review job routines, programs and systems for housekeeping and laundry to ensure continuous quality improvement.
  • Ensure the Compass Health and Safety program is in place, including trained first aiders, an active OH& S committee, H&S training and audits.
  • Active participation in the Health and Safety Committee for the facility.
  • Attend client meetings as applicable to the areas in housekeeping and laundry.
  • Ensure all Marquise staff is appropriately trained in and follow infection control programs.
  • Interact with suppliers and vendors as it relates to housekeeping and laundry services.
  • Recruit, hire, performance manage and discipline all housekeeping and laundry staff.
  • Participate in the budgeting process and the ongoing financial management of the housekeeping and laundry departments.
  • Ensure all Compass HR programs are in place and complete for housekeeping and laundry staff, including CHAT, Be-A-Star, HERO, Weekly Safety Minders, etc.
  • Complete accident investigation forms and recommend ERTW programs for housekeeping and laundry staff.
  • Recommend equipment and supplies needed for housekeeping and laundry operations.
  • Conduct hands-on daily maintenance (physical building maintenance required for this role-including floor care/cleaning and some snow blowing during winter).
  • Act as the main liaison with the Environmental Public Health Officer and other regulatory bodies, as applicable as it relates to environmental services.
  • Participate in the completion of the Balanced Scorecard for the unit.
  • Meet and check-in with the client on a regular basis and attend meetings as requested.
  • Take the lead and coordinate schedules for environmental special projects.

  • Three years of management experience in healthcare, facilities, environmental services or related.
  • Working knowledge of building operations, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, preventative maintenance, and contractor management.
  • Experience in long-term care, healthcare facilities management, building operations, property maintenance, or operating engineering environments is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in a unionized environment.
  • Ability to work in a highly hands-on role requiring regular movement throughout the facility, including climbing stairs and accessing rooftop mechanical equipment when required.
  • Building Environmental Systems (BES), Operating Engineer certification, or a related facilities maintenance designation is considered an asset.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Proficient computer skills, specifically with Windows.
