Job summary

Compass Group Canada is seeking an Environmental Services Manager to lead housekeeping, laundry and facility maintenance in a long-term care home, ensuring a safe, clean and resident-focused environment. You will oversee operations, coordinate preventive maintenance, and manage staff including a unionized workforce while supporting safety, budgeting and quality assurance programs.

Job description

The salary range for this position is $60,000 to $75,000 . Final compensation will be determined based on relevant skills, experience, qualifications, and internal equity. In addition to base salary, eligible employees may be entitled to other elements of total compensation, which may include group benefits, employer RRSP contributions, and discretionary bonus or incentive programs, where applicable to the role. We are committed to offering competitive compensation and comply with all applicable pay transparency legislation. Now, If You Were To Come On Board As An Environmental Services Manager, We'd Ask You To Do The Following For Us

  • Provide overall leadership and operational oversight for housekeeping, laundry, and facility maintenance services within the long‑term care home, ensuring a safe, clean, compliant, and resident‑focused environment.
  • Provide hands‑on oversight of facility maintenance operations, including monitoring building systems such as HVAC, plumbing, electrical, life safety, and preventative maintenance programs.
  • Conduct routine facility inspections, including mechanical rooms and rooftop equipment, coordinate preventative maintenance activities, and oversee third‑party contractors to ensure building systems and infrastructure are operating effectively.
  • Recruit, hire, performance manage and discipline all housekeeping, laundry, and facility maintenance staff.
  • Lead, coach, and performance manage employees within a unionized environment while supporting attendance management, labour relations activities, staff development, and operational excellence.
  • Participate in the budgeting process and the ongoing financial management of the housekeeping, laundry, and facility maintenance departments.
  • Recommend equipment and supplies needed for housekeeping, laundry, and facility maintenance operations.
  • Implement and conduct training sessions and coordinate an annual training calendar at site for all housekeeping and laundry staff.
  • Ensure all Marquise staff is appropriately trained in and follow infection control programs.
  • Ensure all Compass HR programs are in place and complete for housekeeping and laundry staff, including CHAT, Be‑A‑Star, HERO, Weekly Safety Minders, etc.
  • Ensure the Compass Health and Safety program is in place, including trained first aiders, an active OH&S committee, H&S training and audits.
  • Active participation in the Health and Safety Committee for the facility.
  • Complete accident investigation forms and recommend ERTW programs for housekeeping and laundry staff.
  • Conduct weekly quality assurance audits in housekeeping and laundry and follow‑up with the staff, including keeping the manager involved as needed.
  • Review job routines, programs and systems for housekeeping and laundry to ensure continuous quality improvement.
  • Complete a monthly summary of the completed Compass Quality Assurance Program and submit to the District Manager, Regional Director, Unit Manager and client.
  • Conduct hands‑on daily maintenance (physical building maintenance required for this role, including floor care/cleaning and some snow blowing during winter).
  • Interact with suppliers, vendors, and contractors as it relates to housekeeping, laundry, and facility maintenance services.
  • Attend client meetings as applicable to the areas of housekeeping, laundry, and facility maintenance.
  • Act as the main liaison with the Environmental Public Health Officer and other regulatory bodies, as applicable, as it relates to environmental services.
  • Meet and check‑in with the client on a regular basis and attend meetings as requested.
  • Participate in the completion of the Balanced Scorecard for the unit.
  • Take the lead and coordinate schedules for environmental special projects.

  • Post‑secondary education an asset.
  • Three years of management experience in healthcare, facilities management, environmental services, building operations, or a related field.
  • Working knowledge of building operations, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, preventative maintenance, and contractor management.
  • Experience in long‑term care, healthcare facilities management, building operations, property maintenance, or operating engineering environments is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in a unionized environment.
  • Ability to work in a highly hands‑on role requiring regular movement throughout the facility, including climbing stairs and accessing rooftop mechanical equipment when required.
  • Building Environmental Systems (BES), Operating Engineer certification, or a related facilities maintenance designation is considered an asset.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Proficient computer skills, specifically with Windows.
