Job summary

Forbest Academy Inc. invites applications from experienced English teachers to join our Vancouver/Richmond team. The role offers on-call teaching with after-school and evening hours, primarily Monday to Friday, and occasional weekend coverage.

You will develop prep materials for standard tests (SSAT, SAT, AP, IB), support student writing, and provide clear feedback while adapting instruction to diverse learning needs. Residence in Greater Vancouver and legal work status required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in English or a related field.
  • A minimum of 2–3 years of teaching or tutoring experience is preferred.
  • Experience creating preparatory materials for standardized tests (SSAT, SAT, AP, IB) is preferred.
  • Possession of a valid BC teaching certification or its equivalent is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Teach English and writing with emphasis on grammar, composition, and critical analysis.
  • Prepare and adapt materials for after-school and evening sessions.
  • Provide constructive feedback on essays and assignments.
  • Communicate with diverse students and commute between Richmond and Vancouver as needed.

Qualifications and Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in English or a related field.
  • Preference for candidates familiar with the BC curriculum, SSAT, SAT, AP, or IB programs; however, strong subject matter expertise and proven teaching ability will also be considered.
  • A minimum of 2–3 years of teaching or tutoring experience is preferred.
  • Experience creating preparatory materials for standardized tests (SSAT, SAT, AP, IB) is preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in English writing competitions or in coaching students for academic or creative writing contests is considered an advantage.
  • Possession of a valid BC teaching certification or its equivalent is an asset.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect with students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Passion for education and a commitment to fostering a positive learning experience.
  • Ability to adapt instructional strategies to meet diverse student learning needs.
  • Knowledge of English literature at the elementary and secondary school levels, with the ability to guide students in interpretation and critical analysis.
  • Experience teaching writing, including grammar, composition, and creative expression, and providing constructive feedback on essays and assignments.
  • Ability to commute between Richmond and Vancouver locations as needed.
Position Details:
  • Opportunities available for both full-time and part-time roles.
  • Full-time: Minimum of 30 teaching hours per week.
  • Part-time: Total teaching hours vary based on your availability.
  • Hourly Rate: $25.00 to $40.00 per hour, commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Work Schedule:
  • Teaching on an on-call basis.
  • Primarily scheduled Monday to Friday during after-school and evening hours.
