Qualifications

  • Bachelor\'s degree in engineering from an accredited university.
  • 2+ years of construction and/or estimating experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and excellent communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare capital cost estimates, including contingencies, market issues, cash flow and benchmarks.
  • Present and defend estimates and their basis to internal parties and senior management.
  • Support cost engineering reports and studies using scientific principles and techniques, ensuring input/output quality.
  • Liaise with supply chain, cost control, and area managers for accurate cost information.
  • Provide input for estimating tool updates due to standard changes and project experience.

We are seeking an Engineer-in-Training II, Cost Estimating to support the development of a multi-billion-dollar project portfolio spanning the energy sector — work that calls on cost engineering guidelines and processes for the estimation of a wide variety of projects! In this role, you will be part of our Major Projects based in Alberta, contributing directly to projects that shape the future of North America's energy infrastructure. You will contribute to multidisciplinary projects involving liquids, gas, gas storage, and gas utility. You will also work on power projects such as solar, wind farm, and battery storage, along with carbon capture and various acquisitions. This role offers broad exposure to a dynamic project portfolio. What You Will Do:
  • Prepare capital cost estimates, including contingencies, market issues, cash flow, and benchmarks to support future project economic evaluation.
  • Present and defend estimates and their basis to internal interested parties and senior management.
  • Support various cost engineering reports and special studies using scientific principles and techniques, while ensuring the quality of inputs and outputs; perform routine cost analysis and other cost-related evaluations.
  • Liaise with other departments — including supply chain, cost control, and area managers — to ensure effective and accurate cost information is being used in the estimates.
  • Provide support and input for estimating tool updates due to standard changes, industry practices, and recent project experience, as required
Who You Are:

Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited university. 2+ years of relevant construction and/or estimating, or energy sector industry experience. Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office and excellent verbal, written, presentation, and facilitation skills. Self-motivated and organized, demonstrating skill in managing multiple priorities, working independently, and delivering results across concurrent projects. Effective interpersonal and collaboration skills, with the ability to build relationships, work optimally across diverse teams, and communicate at all organizational levels. Working towards your Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation.

Working Conditions:

Office environment. Occasional travel (less than 10%) to project and field sites, industry committees and conferences, and other office locations across Canada and the United States.
