Job summary

META Employment Services in the GTA is seeking an Employment Specialist for a one-year contract to support job seekers with disabilities through on-site coaching, workshops, and retention services.

You will assist with resumes, applications, mock interviews, and data entry while coordinating with employers and META staff. Travel to various locations, occasional evenings/weekends, and potential extensions are part of the role.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in social services or related discipline.
  • Minimum 2 years’ related experience supporting persons with disabilities and/or complex barriers to employment.
  • Competent understanding of federal, provincial and municipal employment related programs and services, legislation, eligibility and guidelines.
  • Familiarity with community social services networks and knowledge of Ontario income support programs.
  • High level of computer proficiency in MS Office Suite (PowerPoint, Outlook, Word, Excel) and effective research skills.
  • Previous experience using databases; CAMS would be considered an asset.
  • Client-focused with strong interpersonal skills which motivate and encourage others.
  • Ability to negotiate, problem solve and effectively work under pressure.
  • Must be willing to travel to various locations for work.
  • Valid Ontario driver's licence, up-to-date vehicle insurance and reliable transportation is essential.
  • Must be resourceful, organized, and efficient, with well-developed time management skills.
  • Works well both independently and collaboratively, as part of a team.
  • Comfortable speaking in group settings and able to organize and facilitate workshops/training sessions.
  • Current and clear criminal record check, including vulnerable sector screening.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with team to identify client attributes and strategies to increase employability and meet client employment goals.
  • Provide support to individuals navigating program components and assistive devices and community information.
  • Facilitate workshops one-on-one or in groups, conduct mock interviews and provide feedback.
  • Create and update resumes, cover letters, and employment applications.
  • Collect follow-up information and provide retention supports as needed.
  • Support job seekers during recruitment including in-person interview support when appropriate.
  • Perform follow-ups for active/closed clients and maintain timely data entry.
  • Provide support with workplace accommodation requirements and retention strategies.
  • Accurately enter data including case notes into databases and submit documentation.
  • Provide job coaching during orientation and training material review.
  • Develop task analysis and teach job duties one-on-one.
  • Provide mobility training to navigate within the city.
  • Liaise between employers, META staff, and program participants.
  • Market and promote agency through events and associations.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Program Supervisor.

POSITION SUMMARY

The incumbent will provide support to clients through workshop facilitation, job applications, on-site job coaching, onboarding, and retentionservices.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Collaborate with team to identify job seekers’ attributes and skills, develop strategies to increase employability and meet clientemployment goals.
  • Provide support to individuals in navigating program components such as use of computer equipment and assistive devices, and accessing community service information.
  • Facilitate workshops one-on-one or in a group setting, conduct mock interviews and provide feedback to client and Employment Coordinator.
  • Create and update resumes, cover letters, and employment applications.
  • Collect follow-up information and provide retention supports as needed.
  • Support job seekers during the recruitment process including coaching for specific job opportunities and when appropriate, of fer inperson support during job interviews.
  • Perform follow-ups at specified intervals for active and closed clients, ensuring data and information is entered/tracked in a timely manner.
  • Provide support with workplace accommodation requirements.
  • Assist with developing and implementing workplace retention strategies.
  • Accurately enter data including case notes into internal/external databases, submit required documentation (including paystubs).
  • Provide job coaching (on-the-job client support through their orientation process and review of training materials, safety protocols, job duties, and company policies/procedures) as needed.
  • Develop detailed task analysis’ and provide instruction to client to learn job duties and develop appropriate work behaviours on a oneon-one basis.
  • Provide training to increase mobility options within the city.
  • Liaise between the placement employer, META staff, and program participant.
  • Market and promote agency through participation in job fairs, speaking engagements, special projects and professional and/or business associations.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Program Supervisor.
