Job summary

Nova Scotia Health Authority seeks a Communications Call Centre Attendant to serve as the primary communications link for physicians, clinics, patients, ORs and Public Health. You will coordinate responses to emergencies and manage on-call duties and pager services from the QEII site.

The role requires high school completion, training to accreditation, and strong MS Word/Excel skills, with bedside knowledge of telecommunications equipment and medical terminology.

Qualifications

  • Grade XII and one year related experience required.
  • Accreditation or commitment to a 2-3 month training and test.
  • Proficient in MS Word and MS Excel.
  • Knowledge of telecommunications equipment (pagers, cell phones, etc.).
  • Healthcare/emergency experience is an asset.
  • Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to respond to emergency procedures.
  • Ability to act on own initiative when procedures do not exist.
  • Typing skills required.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology is an asset.
  • French language ability preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct communications interface to physicians, clinics, patients and public health.
  • Receive internal emergency calls and coordinate response teams.
  • Manage on-call duty sheets and coordinate assignments with on-call staff.
  • Oversee pager users and provide pager replacement/maintenance.
  • Operate within a unionized, admin professionals environment.
