Job summary

Nipissing-Parry Sound Catholic District School Board invites applications for the position of Education Assistant: Classroom Assistant/Physical Care at St. Theresa School. This is a 1.0 FTE permanent position effective October 1, 2026.

The role requires a two-year diploma in a related field and demonstrable experience supporting students with diverse needs, including physical and behavioral challenges. Preference given to those with behavior exceptionality experience and strong collaboration

Qualifications

• Two-year diploma in a relevant field (DSW, Youth Worker, ECE, or Practical Nursing) is required.
• Experience working with students with multiple needs including physical needs, Autism, developmental delays, behavior, and anger management.
• Preference for candidates with direct experience working with children with behavior exceptionalities.
• Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment.
• Knowledge of behavior modification strategies and augmentative communication.
• Experience using technology and digital tools that support remote learning (e.g., Google Classroom, Google Meet).
• Excellent interpersonal skills; and
• Good written and oral communication skills.
• Regular access to a reliable vehicle and a valid driver’s license.

Mandatory Requirements

• Two-year post-secondary diploma in a relevant field such as Developmental Service Worker, Youth Worker, Early Childhood Education, or Practical Nursing (formerly RNA diploma).
• Experience working with students with multiple needs including physical needs, Autism, developmental delays, behavior, and anger management needs.
• Preference will be given to candidates with direct experience working with children with behavior exceptionalities.
• Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment.
• Working knowledge and experience of behavior modification strategies.
• Knowledge of augmentative communication strategies.
• Experience using technology and digital tools and resources that support the remote learning environment (e.g., Google Classroom, Google Meet)
• Excellent interpersonal skills; and
• Good written and oral communication skills.
• Regular access to a reliable vehicle and a valid driver's license.

Preferred Requirements

• Non-violent crisis intervention training would be an asset
• French language skills would be considered an asset
• First Aid training
