Job summary

Nipissing-Parry Sound Catholic District School Board is seeking an Educational Assistant: Classroom Assistant/Physical Care at St Theresa School. This 1.0 FTE permanent position is effective immediately and requires a two-year post-secondary diploma and experience supporting students with diverse needs.

Mandated qualifications include teamwork, behavior management, and knowledge of augmentative communication.

Qualifications

• Two-year post-secondary diploma in a relevant field such as Developmental Service Worker, Youth Worker, Early Childhood Education, or Practical Nursing.
• Experience working with students with multiple needs including physical needs, Autism, developmental delays, behavior, and anger management needs.
• Preference for experience with behavior exceptionalities.
• Ability to work in a team environment.
• Knowledge of behavior modification strategies.
• Knowledge of augmentative communication strategies.
• Experience using technology and digital tools for remote learning (Google Classroom/Meet).
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; and
• Regular access to a reliable vehicle and a valid driver's license.

Mandatory Requirements:

• Two-year post-secondary diploma in a relevant field such as Developmental Service Worker, Youth Worker, Early Childhood Education, or Practical Nursing (formerly RNA diploma).
• Experience working with students with multiple needs including physical needs, Autism, developmental delays, behavior, and anger management needs.
• Preference will be given to candidates with direct experience working with children with behavior exceptionalities.
• Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment.
• Working knowledge and experience of behavior modification strategies.
• Knowledge of augmentative communication strategies.
• Experience using technology and digital tools and resources that support the remote learning environment (e.g., Google Classroom, Google Meet)
• Excellent interpersonal skills; and
• Good written and oral communication skills.
• Regular access to a reliable vehicle and a valid driver's license.

Preferred Requirements:

• Non-violent crisis intervention training would be an asset
• French language skills would be considered an asset
• First Aid training
