Job summary

Yellowknife Education District No. 1 invites applications for an Education Assistant at Ecole Sir John Franklin High School for the 2026/2027 school year.

This 1 full-time (100% FTE) term position emphasizes supporting students with complex needs and non-verbal communication skills. The ideal candidate will hold an ECE or TA diploma, possess strong collaboration abilities, and be prepared for intimate care duties, regulation support, and adherence to safety protocols.

Qualifications

• Requires Early Childhood Education Diploma or Teaching Assistant Diploma.
• Experience working with students or youth with complex needs.
• Ability to work and communicate with non-verbal students.
• Ability to provide regulation support and behavioural intervention.
• Ability and willingness to provide intimate care, toileting, and feeding support for students.
• Experience and/or training in education environments.
• Able to physically support students; position can be physically demanding.
• Proven ability to work independently.
• Patience and experience working with children with unexpected behaviours.
• Flexible/adaptable and committed to contributing to wider school community.
• Experience working as part of a collaborative team and strong communication skills.
• Show initiative and flexibility in working with students from JK to Grade 12.
• High School Diploma.
• Clear Criminal Record Check.
• Trained in First Aid and CPR.
