Job summary

Yellowknife Education District No. 1 invites applications for a High School Woods/Construction Teacher at Ecole Sir John Franklin High School, Grade 9 to 12. This 100% FTE term position runs from August 31, 2026 to January 26, 2027.

The role focuses on delivering relevant woods and construction instruction within a secondary setting. The successful candidate will hold a Bachelor of Education and NWT teaching certification, with demonstrated experience in woods/construction, UDL, and backwards

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Education Degree and a NWT Teacher Certification.
  • Training and/or experience teaching woods/construction.
  • Understanding of competency based education.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Job description

Grade 9 to 12
Full-Time (100% FTE) Term Position
August 31, 2026 to January 26, 2027

Minimum requirements include a Bachelor of Education Degree, a NWT Teacher Certification and :

  • Training and/or experience teaching woods/construction
  • An understanding of competency based education
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Experience teaching at the Secondary level
  • Understanding of universal design for learning
  • Understanding of backwards design
  • Understanding of triangulation of evidence of learning

Candidates must have an original acceptable Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) in place. The original VSC must be dated within 90 days of the date theapplication is received. This is a condition of employment, and must be inplace prior to commencing work in any school.
