Job description

Overview

Glasslake is a rapidly growing mortgage lender. Since commencing operations in 2023, we have expanded across Canada in Ontario, Alberta, and British Columbia. We are seeking a seasoned Business Development Manager to join our Western Canada operations.

As an individual contributor, the Business Development Manager (BDM) will promote and drive mortgage applications for small commercial and residential properties in a designated region. The role involves fostering relationships with mortgage brokers, soliciting new business, managing loan pipelines, and ensuring quality loan submissions. Knowledge of our products, policies, and guidelines is essential.

The ideal candidate will have a general understanding of the mortgage industry, exceptional self-leadership skills, and a proven track record of exceeding sales targets. While knowledge of commercial lending is preferred, it is not mandatory. The candidate will use independent analysis, decision-making skills, and discretion to develop productive broker relationships to drive loan volume and sales achievements.

Responsibilities

The following functions are not exhaustive. Employees may be asked to perform other tasks as required. Responsibilities may evolve based on company needs.

Business Development & Sales
  • Identify and manage a portfolio of mortgage brokers aligned with the company’s guidelines.
  • Develop and nurture relationships with key business partners in designated regions.
  • Maintain a quality pipeline of transactions to meet sales targets and KPIs.
  • Address broker concerns and inquiries promptly and effectively.
  • Travel as needed for sales presentations, broker recruitment, product training, industry conferences, trade shows, and exhibits.
  • Monitor market trends, competitor activities, and broker feedback; share insights with sales leadership.
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities to increase market share.
Facilitate Diligence and Closing
  • Serve as the primary contact with brokers from initial credit application to loan closing, ensuring a seamless client experience.
  • Coordinate borrower onboarding, loan underwriting, and funding processes for efficiency.
  • Collaborate with underwriting to ensure all necessary information and documents are available for adjudication and support credit decisions.
Qualifications
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a proven ability to build relationships.
  • Passion and willingness to put in extra effort to achieve goals.
  • Excellent time management skills to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Driven, goal-oriented, with a positive attitude.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team; receptive to feedback and collaboration.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Flexibility and ability to meet deadlines under pressure with minimal supervision.
  • Solid understanding of real estate and finance fundamentals.
  • Analytical and underwriting skills.
  • Ability to recommend transactions based on market, real estate, and borrower knowledge.
  • Minimum of 3 years in a sales role; understanding of the mortgage broker channel is an asset.
  • Proven success in achieving and exceeding targets.
  • Knowledge of mortgage products, regulations, and market dynamics.
  • Willingness to travel within the region as needed.
  • Bachelor's degree in business, finance, or related field preferred.
