Job summary

BGC Okanagan is seeking a full-time Early Childhood Educator with Infant Toddler certification for our Anne McClymont Club in Kelowna, BC. This temporary role supports young children and families within the Early Years Program.

Hours are 35 per week, with a wage of CAD 31.25 per hour plus a CAD 6.00/hour ECE Wage Enhancement. Equity in hiring and accessibility support available.

Qualifications

  • BC Early Childhood Educator Certificate with current License to Practice.
  • Infant Toddler Certification.
  • Two years of recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Successful completion of the agency screening process, including clear criminal record check.

Responsibilities

  • Welcomes new children and families and ensures enrolment information is complete and compliant with licensing.
  • Plans, carries out and evaluates developmentally appropriate activities and daily schedules.
  • Ensures activities adhere to policies and childcare licensing regulations.
  • Identifies abilities and needs of children and develops individual and group curriculum; refers to professionals as needed.
  • Reports on progress and maintains records, care plans and statistics.
  • Models developmentally appropriate activities and positive guiding techniques.
  • Attends to children’s physical needs including diapering and feeding.
  • Administers first aid and medication per policy.
  • Maintains a healthy, safe, inclusive learning environment.
  • Communicates with families about growth and development and invites parental input.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Welcomes new children and their families to the program. Ensures enrolment information is in order including medical and emergency information, dietary instructions and parental forms follow childcare licensing requirements.
  • Plans, carries out and evaluates developmentally appropriate and age specific activities and experiences for children using modelling, observing, questioning, demonstrating and reinforcing techniques. Develops daily program schedules that include indoor/outdoor, active/quiet and individual and group activities.
  • Ensures activities adhere to BGC Okanagan Polices and Childcare Licensing Regulations
  • Identifies the abilities, interests and needs of children and develops individualized and group curriculum based on these. Recommends referrals or additional services for children with professionals such as behavioural therapists, occupational therapists and speech language pathologists.
  • Reports on progress, behaviours and other issues. Contributes to reports for children with disabilities, maintains records, care plans and statistics.
  • Model developmentally appropriate activities and positive guiding techniques through daily contact with children and team members.
  • Attends to the children’s physical needs that may include diapering, toileting, eating.
  • Administers first aid and medication in accordance with established policy.
  • Maintains a healthy and safe, culturally and developmentally appropriate environment in which the children can learn and grow. Identifies and removes potential hazards.
  • Establish positive relationships and open communication with parents/guardians. Communicates with families about children’s growth and development. Requests input from and participation of parents in the development of programs.
Qualifications:

  • Infant Toddler Certification
  • Two (2) years ofrecent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Hours: 35 hours a week, Monday to Friday

Rate of Pay: $31.25 ($25.25 per hour + $6.00/hr. ECE Wage Enhancement)
