Job summary

Boys and Girls Club Okanagan is seeking a part-time Senior Program Area Leader for our School Aged Child Care Program at Davidson Road Elementary, Lake Country, BC. You will plan and deliver recreational, social, and educational activities reflecting our best practices and philosophy.

As Licensed Manager you will supervise staff, ensure regulatory compliance, and foster relationships with families and staff, while maintaining high safety standards and program quality.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or certificate in recreation, education, social services, or related field.
  • Completion of at least 20 hours of coursework in child development, guidance, health and safety, or nutrition.
  • Minimum of one year of related experience.
  • Valid First Aid Certificate.
  • Class 4 Driver’s Licence (or willingness to obtain).

Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day operations of the program and develop/evaluate plans for children, youth, and families.
  • Serve as Licensed Manager per Child Care Licensing Regulations and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Supervise and mentor program staff and volunteers; provide direction and feedback.
  • Directly supervise members to ensure health, safety, and wellbeing.
  • Create and distribute program calendars for members and families.
  • Complete administrative tasks, including attendance data entry.
  • Orient new families to the program and the Club.
  • Build relationships with families and connect those needing additional support to resources.

Education

Diploma or certificate in recreation/education/social services
20 hours coursework in child development/health/safety
1 year related experience
First Aid Certificate
Class 4 Driver’s Licence

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the assigned program, including developing, implementing, coordinating, and evaluating plans that meet the needs of children, youth, and families.
  • Serve as the Licensed Manager inaccordance with Child Care Licensing Regulations, ensuring full compliance with all regulatory requirements.
  • Supervise, mentor, guide, and lead program staff, when applicable, to support high-quality service delivery.
  • Provide daily direction and performance feedback to program staff and volunteers.
  • Directly supervise program members, ensuring their health, safety, and overall well-being.
  • Create and distribute program activity calendars for members and families.
  • Complete general administrative tasks, including data entry for attendance and calendars.
  • Orient new families and members to the program and the Club.
  • Build relationships with the children, youth, and families within their designated programs. Establishes open communication with parents/caregivers. Identifies families who require additional support and connects them with appropriate resources.
  • Provides group and/or individual behavior management and support.
  • Conduct monthly and weekly audits and inspections, including reviewing participant files, play space checklists, and other required documentation.
  • Ensure all Agency Policies and Procedures, Program Operating Standards, WCB standards, Community Care Licensing Regulations, Risk Management requirements, and general safety standards are consistently met and followed by all staff.
  • Maintain adequate supplies and equipment to support effective program operations.

Qualifications:

  • Diploma or certificate in recreation, education, social services, or a related field, and/or relevant experience working with children or youth
  • Completion of at least 20 hours of coursework in areas such as child development, guidance, health and safety, or nutrition (required for licensed programs)
  • A minimum of one (1) year of recent, related experience
  • Valid First Aid Certificate
  • Class 4 Driver’s Licence (or willingness to obtain)

Additional Information:

  • This position is open to all applicants
  • This position requires union membership
  • This is a temporary position from September 8, 2026 to June 27, 2027, or upon the return of the incumbent.

Hours: 25 hours per, Monday to Friday, 1pm – 6pm
Rate of Pay: $22.60 per hour
