Job description

Reporting directly to the President, the Senior Business Development Manager will have a critical role in driving the company’s growth strategy by generating new business leads, building and maintaining key relationships, attending industry events, participating in RFPs, negotiating and closing business deals, and leading initiatives to achieve the company's strategic goals. This position requires a motivated, experienced and results-oriented leader with a strong business acumen and the ability to develop strategic partnerships and drive revenue growth. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in packaging and print processes, established relationships within the CPG and CHC industries in Canada.

Specific Duties

Strategic Planning & Collaboration:

  • Develop and implement the business development strategy aligned with overall objectives
  • Lead market research and analysis to inform strategic decision-making
  • Work closely with internal teams to align business development efforts with overall objectives
  • Provide market feedback to improve product development and services

Lead Generation & Sales:

  • Proactively generate and evaluate new business opportunities and partnerships
  • Develop and maintain a robust pipeline of prospective clients
  • Prepare and deliver compelling sales presentations and proposals

Market Engagement:

  • Represent the company and promote its services at industry events, conferences, and networking functions
  • Stay informed about market trends, competitor activities, and customer needs

Relationship Building:

  • Establish and nurture relationships with key decision-makers in CPG and CHC companies, and other key stakeholders
  • Act as a trusted advisor to clients, ensuring high levels of satisfaction and repeat business

Negotiation and Closing:

  • Lead negotiations on contracts, pricing, and terms with clients
  • Participate in Requests for Proposals (RFPs) and manage the proposal process
  • Collaborate with account managers to develop competitive pricing strategies

Reporting & Performance Tracking:

  • Establish and track performance metrics/KPIs related to BD activities to measure effectiveness
  • Prepare and present regular reports on sales activities, pipeline status, and revenue forecasts.

Skills and Competencies:

  • In-depth knowledge of packaging and print processes
  • Proven track record of generating new revenue annually
  • Strong network of contacts within the CPG and CHC sectors in Canada
  • Excellent negotiation, presentation, and communication skills
  • Ability to handle both transactional and enterprise-level contracts
  • Strategic Vision: Ability to develop and implement long-term business development strategies
  • Leadership: Strong leadership and team-building skills to inspire and motivate peers and key stakeholders
  • Negotiation: Expertise in negotiating and closing deals with a win-win approach
  • Market Insight: Deep understanding of market dynamics, industry trends, and competitive landscape
  • Financial Acumen: Ability to analyze financial data and understand the financial impact of business decisions
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present ideas clearly and persuasively
  • Networking: Proven ability to build a strong network of industry contacts and leverage relationships to drive business success
