Job summary

Discovery Mining Ltd in Canada’s Timmins region seeks a Disability Management Advisor to lead disability claims processing, promote occupational health, and manage the disability program at Kidd Operations.

You will coordinate WSIB and LTD/WID claims, arrange return-to-work plans, and perform assessments. Prepare documentation, monitor claims, and analyze trends for management insight.

Qualifications

• 3-5 years in disability management, including Workplace Safety and Insurance Board claims and return to work programs experience.
• Knowledge of the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act and Regulations, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Ontario Human Rights Code, Employment Standards Act and Personal Health Information Protection Act governing workers.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and submit claims to appropriate agencies for claims assessment.
• Prepare initial objection documentation when required for WSIB.
• Coordinate return to work and minimize lost time, while ensuring compliance with WSIB policies/legislation.
• Utilize proactive methods to address barriers in the return-to-work process.
• Recommend and coordinate assessments such as Functional Capacity Evaluations and IMEs.
• Maintain accurate documentation and monitor ongoing claims throughout life of claim.
• Analyze claims and provide reports and guidance on trends.

The Position

As a Disability Management Advisor, you will be responsible for the processing of disability claims, promote occupational health, and manage the disability management process at Kidd Operations. The processing and management of claims for disability benefits will be done in accordance with the terms and provisions of the applicable group insurance contract (WID, LTD) and WSIB Act whichever is applicable.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and submit claims to appropriate agencies for claims assessment.
• Prepare initial objection documentation when required for WSIB.
• Ensure that third parties are working within accordance with the terms and provisions of the applicable group insurance contracts (WID, LTD) or Workplace Safety and Insurance Board.
• Coordinate return to work and minimize lost time, while ensuring compliance with Worker’s Safety and Insurance Board policies/legislation, Weekly Indemnity and Long-Term carrier’s contracts.
• Utilize proactive methods to address any barriers throughout the return-to-work process, including early intervention approaches or when claim progress or recovery delays.
• Recommend and coordinate appropriate assessments and evaluations, including Physical Demands Analyses, Functional Capacity Evaluations, and Independent Medical Examinations.
• Works with claimants, departments, unions members to determine modified work opportunities respecting collective agreements where applicable.
• Maintain accurate documentation, records and sequence of events throughout the life of claim. Track and monitor ongoing claims for both occupational and non-occupational claims.
• Analyze claims, incidents and investigation data to define trends and prepare reports. Provides reports, statistics, technical guidance and expertise on claims management trends for departments and management team.

Skills And Qualifications

• University or college degree related to Nursing or Occupational Health and Safety
• 3-5 years in disability management, including Workplace Safety and Insurance Board claims and return to work programs experience.
• Knowledge of the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act and Regulations, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Ontario Human Rights Code, Employment Standards Act and Personal Health Information Protection Act governing workers.

Compensation And Benefits

Competitive total compensation package including:
