Job summary

WCB Alberta in Edmonton, Alberta is seeking a Disability Advisor for a temporary one-year, full-time role to support staff with illnesses or injuries and to coordinate safe return-to-work plans. You will manage a caseload, gather medical information, arrange appropriate modified work, and collaborate with health professionals, supervisors and employees while maintaining strict confidentiality.

A degree or diploma and at least three years in disability management are required; strong

  • At least 3 years in disability management or related field.
  • Ability to work independently in a high-volume setting.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain and assess information regarding illness or injury from medical providers to enable safe return to work.
  • Determine appropriate support and modified work to offer on notification of illness/injury.
  • Work with employees, supervisors and health professionals to ensure care and support.
  • Maintain a caseload and document management for short-term, non-complex cases.
  • Build trust with clients and educate employees and leaders in short-term leave processes.
  • Negotiate modified work with employees and leaders as needed.
  • Assess transfers for more complex claims when appropriate.
  • Arrange equipment or home supports and back up ergonomic assessments.
  • Track and update spreadsheets and coordinate with disability managers.

At WCB-Alberta, you too can make a difference.The Disability Advisor will have exceptional communication and relationship building skills, to work closely with employees and their leaders to assess and deliver appropriate support and services to injured or ill employees.Your responsibilities:Obtain and assess all relevant information regarding an employee’s illness or injury from the appropriate medical providers until we have a safe and successful return to work.The Disability Advisor is required to determine appropriate support required as well as appropriate modified work to be offered to that employee on the day notified of illness/injury in support of our duty to accommodate.Work closely with employees, supervisors and health professionals to ensure that employees are receiving the care, treatment and support needed.Maintain a caseload and all incoming documentation to clients on short-term, non-complex cases and managing routine inquiries or emerging issues.Build and establish trust with clients quickly and work collaborativelyEducate employees and leaders in the process of short-term leaveNegotiate modified work with employees and leaders, as necessaryAssess when/if appropriate to transfer claims for more complex managementArrange for any equipment or at home supports for employeesAct as back up for ergonomic assessments and the Health, Safety and Environmental CoordinatorContact employees per requests of leaders to offer supportTrack and update various spreadsheets and databases by connecting with business areas and disability managersAct as a contact for Canada Life to send letters and documentation and ensure that pertinent information is forwarded to the Disability Manager or Total CompensationYour experience and skills:Undergraduate Degree/Diploma, preferable in Social Sciences, Rehabilitation or related degree.Considerable experience in caseload management and/or bodily injury insurance claims.At least 3 years of experience in disability management, a claims environment, insurance, rehabilitation or other related field.Candidates must be able to work independently in a high-volume work environment.Demonstrated exceptional communication and investigation skills are required.Solid proven decision-making skills.Familiarity with medical or rehabilitative terminology is an asset.Ability to build internal and external stakeholder relationshipsStrong interpersonal, communication and customer service skills are required for success in the roleAbility to deal with all customers (internal/external) in friendly and diplomatic manner with the utmost respect for confidentiality.Experience with MS Office (Word, Excel, Power Point) is required.Some experience in interpretation/application of policy and/or legislation.Demonstrated time management, team skills and decision-making ability.What we offer:We offer a competitive salary, a comprehensive benefits package, flexible work schedules and hybrid work opportunities (combination of work from physical office and primary home residence) that foster a healthy work-life balance.
