Job description

Position Title: Director, Finance Salary & Benefits: $140,000-180,000 w/ 30% bonus Position Status: Current Vacancy Location: Gatineau, QC Work Model: Hybrid (4 days onsite, 1 day remote)

This of Director - Finance sits at the center of a large, fast-moving North American finance platform, overseeing a 30+ person accounting organization responsible for a complex portfolio with approximately $25 billion in assets under management and $2 billion in annual revenue. It is a transformative leadership position designed for a proactive, collaborative finance executive who thrives on solving intricate challenges, takes full ownership of outcomes, and brings a continuous-improvement mindset to both strategy and execution. Reporting to the Vice President, Finance and working closely with senior leadership, the Director will shape the future of the finance function by driving modernization, mentoring a high-performing team, and implementing scalable, automated workflows - supported by an extended, structured handover to ensure a strong start from day one.

Key Responsibilities
  • Continuous Improvement & Business Transformation Champion major finance and accounting transformation initiatives aimed at simplifying processes, standardizing practices, and embedding AI-enabled automation across the function. Diagnose operational bottlenecks and lead efforts to modernize workflows, improving close accuracy, speed, and audit readiness while reducing manual effort. Oversee accounting for acquisitions, dispositions, and capital recycling activities, establishing scalable integration frameworks that support long-term platform growth.
  • Controllership Lead complex, multi-entity accounting operations, ensuring precision, completeness, and consistency across all trial balances within the platform. Drive a disciplined, predictable, and accelerated close process across multiple sub-teams, reinforcing strong controls and high-quality outputs. Serve as the senior authority on advanced IFRS and U.S. GAAP matters, guiding policy interpretation and resolving complex accounting judgments. Oversee external audit coordination and SOX compliance, proactively identifying control gaps and implementing remediation strategies to strengthen the overall control environment. Provide senior executives with clear, actionable financial insights that inform strategic decisions and support enterprise-wide priorities.
Leadership & Development
  • Make decisive, value-driven choices and provide clear strategic direction while maintaining a strong bias for action.
  • Build and sustain a high-performance culture by setting ambitious goals, empowering team members, and developing succession depth across a 30+ person organization.
  • Instill a continuous-improvement mindset, encouraging teams to challenge existing processes and pursue innovative, scalable solutions.
  • Cultivate strong, trust-based relationships with executive leaders, cross-functional partners, and operational teams to ensure alignment and shared accountability.

The ideal candidate brings more than twelve years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including meaningful leadership over multi-layered teams within large, complex environments such as Fortune Global 500 organizations, shared-services structures, or matrixed accounting models. They hold an active Canadian CPA designation and have gained public-company exposure through corporate roles or extensive Big 4 audit experience. Their technical foundation includes deep mastery of IFRS, U.S. GAAP, enterprise financial close processes, and practical familiarity with SOX/ICFR frameworks. They have a proven track record of leading major transformation, automation, or change-management initiatives, and experience with systems such as IFS, Blackline, OneStream, Optro, or IT2 is considered a strong asset. This role requires on-site presence at least four days per week to support collaboration and operational effectiveness.

What Will Make You Stand Out
  • Demonstrated leadership of large-scale finance transformations that materially improved close speed, control strength, and automation maturity across a complex organization.
  • A history of influencing senior executives and driving enterprise-wide change through clear communication, strong ownership, and disciplined execution.
  • Hands-on expertise with modern close-optimization and automation tools (e.g., Blackline, OneStream, IT2), paired with a forward-looking mindset toward AI-enabled workflows.
  • Exceptional ability to build, mentor, and scale high-performing teams, particularly within multi-entity or multi-jurisdictional finance environments.
