Job description

Horizon Recruitment is recruiting for an experienced CPA-designated finance leader to lead the Canadian finance function for a growing organization.

This role has two important priorities. First, you will lead and develop a team of four finance professionals, assessing the team's current capabilities and helping shape the structure, skills, and responsibilities needed to support the future of the business. This may involve coaching and developing existing team members, redefining responsibilities, or evolving the team structure as the organization grows.

Second, you will bring leadership to a finance function that is undergoing significant change. With a systems implementation underway and several processes that are currently inconsistent or not clearly defined, you will have the opportunity to establish better ways of working, improve controls, standardize processes, and create a more scalable finance operation.

Alongside these priorities, you will oversee financial reporting, controls, compliance, planning, and transactional finance while partnering with senior leaders on business performance and strategic decisions.

This is a hybrid position based in Surrey, BC, with one to two days per week in the office.

Responsibilities
  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of four finance professionals, creating clear expectations, accountability, and opportunities for growth.
  • Assess the current finance team structure, capabilities, and responsibilities, then identify what needs to change to better support the future needs of the business.
  • Build a strong finance operating model by clarifying roles, improving collaboration, and developing the right mix of skills across the team.
  • Lead finance process improvement during a period of systems and organizational change, identifying inconsistent, manual, or undefined processes and establishing more effective ways of working.
  • Support the successful implementation and adoption of new finance systems by helping translate business requirements into practical, standardized processes.
  • Create greater consistency across financial workflows, reporting, controls, documentation, and transactional activities.
  • Lead the Canadian finance function across financial control, reporting, compliance, and transactional finance.
  • Deliver accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting while continuing to improve the quality and usefulness of financial information.
  • Strengthen financial controls, governance, SOX compliance, and quarterly reporting processes.
  • Lead budgeting, forecasting, and long-range planning while improving forecast accuracy and visibility into financial risks and opportunities.
  • Partner with senior business leaders to provide financial insight, challenge assumptions, and support commercial and strategic decisions.
  • Lead the annual statutory audit and oversee tax compliance, reporting, audits, and transfer pricing requirements.
  • Develop financial and investment models to assess projects, opportunities, and business cases.
  • Manage working capital, including oversight of receivables, credit exposure, and timely supplier payments.
Requirements
  • CPA designation with at least 5 years of post-designation experience.
  • Public company experience is required, with a strong understanding of the reporting, controls, governance, and compliance expectations of a publicly listed organization.
  • Strong knowledge of SOX and experience working with US GAAP and/or IFRS.
  • Proven experience leading and developing finance or accounting teams, including assessing capabilities, coaching individuals, and evolving team structures and responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated success improving finance processes in environments where processes have been manual, inconsistent, or not clearly defined.
  • Experience supporting finance systems implementations, ERP changes, or other significant finance transformation initiatives.
  • Strong financial reporting, controls, budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis experience.
  • Ability to build practical, scalable processes while maintaining appropriate financial controls and governance.
  • Confidence communicating complex financial matters and influencing stakeholders at the senior leadership level.
  • Experience leading audits and working with external auditors, tax advisors, and corporate finance teams.
  • SaaS or technology industry experience is an asset but is not required.
  • Experience with Microsoft Business Central, Microsoft Dynamics, NetSuite, or similar ERP systems is preferred.
  • Exposure to Great Plains, JD Edwards, Oracle HFM, Oracle PBCS, Salesforce, or HubSpot is an asset.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills.
Remuneration
  • Base salary $120,000 plus, well qualified candidates may command more, 3% RSP match.
