Job summary

The Government of Nunavut seeks a Director, Facilities and Operations for Nunavut Arctic College to provide strategic leadership over facilities, residences, security and services across campuses. You will ensure safe, functional and culturally supportive learning environments.

Reporting to the Vice-President, you will steward college infrastructure, manage budgets and vendor contracts, and drive continuous improvement in service delivery while collaborating with Inuit stakeholders and partners.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent professional certification.
• Five years of progressive experience in facilities, property, and/or operations management.
• Two years of experience supervising and leading a team.

Reporting to the Vice‑President, the Director, Facilities and Operations is responsible for providing strategic leadership and oversight for the management, maintenance, security, and operational effectiveness of Nunavut Arctic College’s facilities, residences, and support services across all campuses and Community Learning Centres. The position ensures that students, staff, and visitors have access to safe, secure, functional, and culturally supportive learning and living environments that advance the College’s mission and objectives.

The Director is accountable for the stewardship of College‑owned and leased infrastructure, student housing, security services, emergency management programs, and operational resources. Working closely with senior leadership, government departments, community partners, contractors, and Inuit stakeholders, the Director develops and implements operational strategies, ensures compliance with applicable policies and safety standards, and promotes effective, efficient, and sustainable service delivery throughout the organization.

The Key Responsibilities Of This Position Are

• Lead facilities, housing, security, and operational services across the College.
• Oversee the maintenance and management of College facilities and assets.
• Direct emergency management, health and safety, and crisis response programs.
• Manage operational budgets, contracts, procurement, and service agreements.
• Provide leadership and direction to operational staff and managers.

The knowledge, skills and abilities are typically acquired through the completion of:

• A bachelor’s degree in a field related to facilities, operations and/or property management, or a certification as a Certified Facility Manager (CFM) or Project Management Professional (PMP), or similar.
• Five (5) years of progressive experience in facilities, property, and/or operations management.
• Two (2) years of experience supervising and leading a team.

Assets Would Include

• Ability to speak more than one of Nunavut’s official languages.
• Experience working in a post‑secondary or training environment.
• Current certification in WHIMIS, OHS, or a certification related to the position.

This position is a position of trust and will require a criminal record check.

The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages would be considered an asset. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross‑cultural environment are also considered assets.
