Job Description – Manager / Director, Corporate Development

Business Unit Accountabilities:

Corporate Development is a dynamic unit responsible for:

  1. Managing mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures for Manulife on an end-to-end basis.
  2. Handling major strategic and ad hoc projects aligned with the company’s strategic plans.

The team acts as a catalyst, enabling and partnering with Manulife’s operating segments to execute their strategies through M&A, complementing organic growth. It functions as a control point to ensure deals are identified, assessed, valued, structured, negotiated, managed, and executed within a well-controlled process, minimizing key risks.

The unit collaborates across all segments within Manulife, fostering a team-oriented and collaborative environment.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting the development of strategic options to enhance shareholder returns.
  • Assessing the impact of transactions and strategic initiatives on Manulife’s operations and goals from financial and strategic perspectives.
  • Preparing clear and concise oral and written presentations of analysis and conclusions.
  • Conducting detailed research on company and industry specifics, including competitor analysis, industry transactions, and emerging landscapes.
  • Preparing reports and presentations on industry-related topics.
  • Supporting valuation processes for potential transactions, including peer reviews and analysis of capital, reserves, and earnings movements.
  • Assisting in managing transactions from evaluation through due diligence, negotiations, and closing.
  • Liaising with other departments to ensure valuation assumptions align with Manulife’s standards.

Specific Skills and Requirements:

  • Strong financial background; FSA / FCIA preferred.
  • Ability to analyze results, identify issues, and coordinate resolutions.
  • Organizational skills to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Experience in developing pro forma financial statements.
  • Understanding of financial statements, accounting standards, and performance ratios.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Proactive, self-directed, and team-oriented work ethic.
  • Excellent written and visual presentation skills, especially in PowerPoint.
