Responsibilities

1. Serve food to residents according to individual diets and preferences.
2. Manage portion control of food items.
3. Follow safety precautions, report unsafe incidents or equipment issues, and follow established safety procedures.
4. Operate equipment safely, document temperatures, and follow up as necessary.
5. Deliver catering throughout the hospital, including dish pickup for ware washing.
6. Maintain proper food temperatures and observe serving time limits.
7. Assist cooks with food preparation, including salads, vegetables, and simple desserts.
8. Clear plates, operate dishwashers, and clean utensils as per procedures.
9. Support in food storage, labeling, and inventory management, including leftovers.
10. Check and document food temperatures and quality, initiate corrective actions, and ensure proper documentation and stock rotation.
11. Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of equipment and work areas.
12. Set up for catering events, including linens, equipment, and special requests.
13. Adhere to departmental policies on quality, safety, and infection control.
14. Assemble nourishment carts and stock unit kitchenettes.
15. Participate in meetings and educational programs as required.
16. Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Requirements

• Completion or enrollment in a Food Service Worker Program compliant with the Ontario Long-Term Care Homes Act.
• Food Handler Certification approved by the Public Health Department.
• Availability to work days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Ability to perform moderate to heavy lifting and stand for long periods.
• Current (within 6 months) VPS screening.
• Experience in a kitchen or food service setting.
