Job summary

Extendicare Forest Trail Home in Peterborough, ON is seeking a part-time Dietary Aide for 4-hour evening shifts, weekends and holidays. You will assist with plating and serving meals, help Cooks with basic prep, and maintain cleanliness of serving areas.

Ideal candidates have a High School Diploma and a valid Food Handlers Certificate; a nutrition/food service diploma is an asset. Prior dietary experience in healthcare or hospitality is beneficial.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Higher Academic Certification.
• Valid Food Handlers Certificate.
• Degree/ Diploma in nutrition or Food Service Program is an asset.
• Previous dietary skills/experience in healthcare, hospital or hospitality settings are assets.
• Must meet the physical requirements (standing, lifting) and be able to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Reading and writing in English required; follow verbal and written instructions.

Responsibilities

• Serves food to residents according to individual diets and preferences; maintains serving temperatures.
• Assists Cooks with basic food prep (salads, vegetables, fruits) and simple dishes.
• Clears dishes, operates dishwasher, and cleans pots, pans, and utensils.
• Stores and labels dietary supplies and leftovers; follows QA, safety, infection control policies.
• Assembles nourishment carts and stocks kitchenettes; participates in meetings and trainings.
• Other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

This position is for our Forest Trail Home, located in 514 Deline St. Peterborough, ON K9K 1T3.

Available opportunities include Part-Time; 4 Hour Evening shifts Must be able to work Weekends and Holidays

What you’ll be doing

• Serves food to residents according to individual diets and preferences. Observes time limits for meal serving. Maintains foods at proper serving temperature.


• Assists Cooks to clean and prepare such uncooked food as salads, vegetables, and fruits. Follows basic instructions in preparing such simple foods as breakfast items, basic desserts, and garnishes.


• Clears plates and trays, loads, and operates dishwasher. Cleans pots, pans, and cooking utensils as per procedure.


• Participates in proper storage and labeling of dietary supplies and food, including leftovers.


• Adheres to established departmental policies, procedures regarding quality assurance, fire, safety, environment, and infection control.


• Assembles nourishment carts. Stocks unit kitchenettes.


• Participates in facility meetings as assigned. Attends in-service education programs.


• Other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

• Previous dietary skills, knowledge, and experience with institutional, health care, restaurant, or hospitality food service environments is an asset.


• Must meet the physical requirements of the position (standing for long periods of time, moderate to heavy lifting, fast paced environment).


• Ability to read and write in English as well as to understand simple verbal and written instructions in English.


• Ability to work safely, following established safety practices and procedures.


• Successful candidate must be available to work, days, evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays.
