Job summary

Extendicare York Home in Sudbury, ON is seeking a Part-Time Food Service Worker to join our culinary team. You will assist with plating and serving meals, help Cooks with prep, and maintain clean serving areas in a long-term care setting.

Requirements include enrollment in a Food Service Worker Program or completion, a current Food Handler's Certificate, and ability to stand for long periods. Availability for days, evenings, weekends and holidays is expected.

Qualifications

  • Enrolled/completed Food Service Worker Program as per Ontario Long-Term Care Homes Act requirements.
  • Current Food Handler's Certificate required.
  • Prior dietary experience in long-term care preferred.
  • Able to stand for extended periods and read/write English.
  • Able to follow safety practices and handle lifting.
  • Must be available for day/evening shifts, weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities

  • Serve residents according to diets and preferences, maintain food temps.
  • Assist cooks with simple food prep and salads.
  • Clear dishes, operate dishwasher, clean pots and utensils.
  • Stock and label dietary supplies and leftovers.
  • Follow department policies, safety and infection control.
  • Assemble nourishment carts and stock kitchenettes.
  • Attend meetings and in-service training as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

This position is for our York Home, located in Sudbury, ON. Available opportunities include Part-Time; Day/Evening

What you’ll be doing
  • Serves food to residents according to individual diets and preferences. Observes time limits for meal serving. Maintains foods at proper serving temperature.
  • Assists Cooks to clean and prepare such uncooked food as salads, vegetables, and fruits. Follow basic instructions in preparing such simple foods as breakfast items, basic desserts, and garnishes.
  • Clears plates and trays, loads, and operates dishwasher. Cleans pots, pans, and cooking utensils as per procedure.
  • Participates in proper storage and labeling of dietary supplies and food, including leftovers.
  • Adheres to established departmental policies, procedures regarding quality assurance, fire, safety, environment, and infection control.
  • Assemble nourishment carts. Stocks unit kitchenettes.
  • Participates in facility meetings as assigned. Attends in-service education programs.
  • Other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
What you bring
  • Successful completion and/or enrollment in a Food Service Worker Program meeting the requirements of the Ontario Long-Term Care Homes Act required. If enrolled, you must complete the program within three (3) years of hire date.
  • Current Food Handler`s Certificate
  • Previous dietary experience preferred in LTC (Long Term Care) Home 0-1 year(s).
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time
  • Ability to read and write English as well as to understand simple verbal and written instructions in English.
  • Ability to work safely, following established safety practices and procedures.
  • Must be able to do moderate to heavy lifting
  • Successful candidates must be available for workdays, evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays
