Job summary

Extendicare Riverbend Place in Cambridge, Ontario, is seeking a dedicated cook to join our culinary team. Qualifications

  • Chef training or culinary management certificate or diploma that meets the OLTCH Act requirements.
  • Certificate of qualification as a Cook under the OLTCH Act requirements.
  • Post-secondary diploma in food & nutrition management or a related degree.
  • Experience in institutional/health care/restaurant/hospitality cooking.

Responsibilities

  • Review regular and therapeutic menus; set up equipment and supplies for food prep.
  • Prepare food and nourishments per prescribed diets.
  • Maintain records; monitor quality and quantity of food.
  • Direct Dietary Aides in basic food prep and serving at meals.
  • Assume responsibility for routine operations when Dietary Manager is absent.

This position is for Extendicare Riverbend Place , located in Cambridge, Ontario.

Available opportunities include Part-Time/ Casual; Day/Evening.

What you’ll be doing
  • Reviews regular and therapeutic menus and sets up equipment and supplies for food preparation.
  • Prepares food and nourishments in accordance with prescribed diets.
  • Maintains all required records and monitors quality and quantity of food.
  • Directs Dietary Aides in basic food preparation procedures and in serving activities at mealtimes.
  • Assumes responsibility for routine departmental operations in the absence of the Dietary Manager.
What you bring
  • Chef training or culinary management certificate or diploma from a program that meets the requirements of the OLTCH Act, or
  • Certificate of qualification as a Cook issued by an authority meeting the requirements of the OLTCH Act, or
  • Post‑secondary diploma in food and nutrition management or a post‑secondary degree in food and nutrition, or
  • Institutional, health care, restaurant, or hospitality cooking experience
  • "RedSeal" certification preferred
  • Current Food Handler`s Certificate preferred
  • Experience with an older adult population an asset
  • Strong customer and resident service skills.
  • Experience in a high paced customer service setting an asset
  • Flexible and willingness to learn new tasks
  • Ability to multi‑task and adapt to quickly changing priorities
  • Excellent interpersonal and oral communication skills
  • Ability to read, write, and follow instructions in English (other languages an asset)
