Job summary

Canadian Natural is seeking a Software Engineering or Computer Science student for a Developer Student position at our Calgary head office. You will maintain and develop components to streamline business processes and provide application support across systems solutions.

Working with experienced analysts and developers, you will gain hands-on experience with languages including C#, .NET, Python, SQL, and web technologies while building data integrity, reports, and dashboards.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in 2nd, 3rd or 4th year of a degree/diploma in Information Technology or Computer Science.
  • Proficiency in modern programming languages such as Java, Python or C++ is preferred.
  • Familiarity with web and software development tools and frameworks listed in the posting.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze, design, develop, and test applications, including UI, data integrations, and reports.
  • Collaborate with Systems Analysts and Developers through the project lifecycle from requirements to deployment.
  • Develop and maintain specifications and documentation for new apps and data integrations.
  • Build solutions using technologies such as C#, .NET, Python, SQL, VS Code, Git, Node.js, REST APIs.
  • Troubleshoot issues and develop analytic reports and dashboards using BI tools.

As the Developer Student, you will maintain and develop application components to streamline business processes. Additionally, you will provide application support to both systems solutions and business needs.   • Job location: Calgary, AB – Head Office
  • Shift schedule: 5 days on, 2 days off, 8 hours/day (Monday – Friday)
  • Term length: 12 months
  • Term start: January 2027
  • Term type: Part-time & Full-time
    • January – April: Part-time
    • May – August: Full-time
    • September – December: Part‑time (Part‑time being a maximum of 20 hours per week.)
  • Safety sensitive position: No

Key Accountabilities:

  • Analyze, design, develop, and test applications, including application logic, user interfaces, data integrations, data conversion scripts, reports Progressive Web Applications (PWA)
  • Collaborate with Systems Analysts and Developers throughout the lifecycle from requirements gathering and design to deployment and support
  • Develop, maintain, and adhere to functional and technical specifications and documentation
  • Design and develop new applications or data integrations based on business requirements while identifying opportunities to streamline business processes and improve operational efficiency
  • Develop solutions using technologies such as C#, .NET, Python, SQL, Visual Studio Code (VS Code), Git, Node.js, npm, Yeoman, Heft, REST APIs, and other scripting languages
  • Troubleshoot, debug and fix problems related to applications, system integrations and SQL queries
  • Develop analytic reports and dashboards using Power BI, Tableau or SSRS
  • Manage multiple tasks and priorities with high levels of effectiveness and enthusiasm

What You Bring to the Role:

  • Currently enrolled in your 2 nd , 3 rd or 4 th year of a degree/diploma in Information Technology or Computer Science
  • Modern programming language knowledge in either Java/ Python/C++
  • Familiarity with one or more of the following technologies: VB.NET, C#.NET, ASP.NET, Blazor, Entity Framework, React, TypeScript, HTML5, CSSE, MS SQL Server, Orchestrator, Angular, ServiceNow, Power BI, Oracle, M365(SharePoint Online, Teams, OneDrive), Documentum, AND McLaren
