Job summary

Canadian Natural Resources Limited (CNRL) is seeking a Software Engineering or Computer Science student for a Developer Student role in Calgary. You will maintain and develop application components to streamline business processes and deliver digital solutions that support operations.

You will also provide application support, learn DevOps practices, and work with systems analysts and developers to address complex organizational challenges while contributing to data integrity and effectiveness

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in 2nd, 3rd or 4th year of a degree/diploma in IT or CS.
  • Knowledge of Java/Jython/Python/C++ or similar languages.
  • Familiarity with DevOps and Agile Scrum practices.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze, design and develop applications including UI, data interfaces, and reports.
  • Work with Systems Analysts and Developers through the lifecycle.
  • Learn and apply DevOps and Agile Scrum methodologies with the team.
  • Follow and maintain specifications and documentation.
  • Develop and maintain technical specs and documentation.
  • Design new applications based on business requirements to streamline processes.
  • Troubleshoot and fix issues in applications and SQL queries.
  • Develop analytic reports using Power BI, Tableau or SSRS.
  • Develop applications and configure modules within IBM Maximo EAM (as applicable).

As the Developer Student, you will maintain and develop application components to streamline business processes. Additionally, you will provide application support to both systems solutions and business needs.   • Job location: Calgary, AB - Head Office
  • Shift schedule: 5 days on, 2 days off, 8 hours/day (Monday - Friday)
  • Multiple term starts and lengths:
    • January 2027 - 8 or 12 months (Full-time)
    • May 2027 - 4 or 8 months (Full-time)
  • Safety sensitive position: No
Key Accountabilities
  • Analyze, design and develop applications through the development of application logic, user interfaces, data interfaces, data conversion scripts and reports
  • Work with and learn from Systems Analysts and Developers throughout the lifecycle of an application within the enterprise system
  • Learn and apply DevOps principles and Agile Scrum methodologies while working with the team
  • Follow and maintain functional/technical specifications and documentation
  • Develop and maintain functional/technical specifications and documentation
  • Design new applications based on business requirements streamline business processes and functions using C#, Python, SQL and other scripting language
  • Troubleshoot, debug and fix problems that occur in the everyday use of an application/interface or SQL query
  • Develop analytic reports using Power BI, Tableau or SSRS
  • Manage multiple tasks with high levels of effectiveness and enthusiasm
  • Develop applications and configure modules within the IBM Maximo EAM System
What You Bring To The Role
  • Currently enrolled in your 2 nd , 3 rd or 4 th year of a degree/diploma in Information Technology or Computer Science
  • Modern programming language knowledge in either Java/Jython/Python/C++
  • Familiarity with one or more of the following technologies: VB.NET, C#.NET, ASP.NET, Blazor, Entity Framework, MS SQL Server, Orchestrator, Angular, Remedy, Tableau, Power BI, SQL Server Reporting Services, Microsoft Access, Informatica, Oracle and Oracle Fusion
