Job summary

Canadian Natural is seeking a student intern to join the Control Systems team in Calgary, Alberta. You will contribute to forecasting model development, data processing workflows, and interactive dashboards to support operational decisions.

This eight-month term starts May 2027 and runs Monday–Friday with 8-hour days. Applicants must be enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Engineering and have completed formal data science training.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s degree program in Engineering.
  • Proven completion of formal training related to data science.
  • Pre-employment drug and alcohol test must be successfully completed.

Responsibilities

  • Model Development: Design and implement forecasting models to predict future trends using machine learning.
  • Data Workflow Management: Use data orchestration tools to manage data processing workflows.
  • Data Visualization: Develop dashboards to present forecasting results to stakeholders.
  • Data Quality Assurance: Clean and preprocess data, addressing anomalies and missing values.
  • Collaboration: Work with cross-functional teams to gather requirements and support operational improvements.

As part of our Control Systems team, you'll support a team accountable for the reliability and availability of all DCS and control system assets within the project area.   • Job location: Calgary, Alberta – Head Office
  • Work schedule: 5 x 2, 8 hours per day (Monday – Friday)
  • Term length: 8 Months
  • Term start: May 2027

Key Accountabilities:
  • Model Development: Design and implement forecasting models to predict future trends and utilize machine learning algorithms to analyze historical data and identify trends and anomalies
  • Data Workflow Management: Utilize data orchestration tools (e.g., Prefect) to manage and streamline data processing workflows, ensuring efficient execution of EDA and data manipulation tasks
  • Data Visualization: Develop interactive dashboards using visualization tools (e.g., Plotly Dash, Power BI) to present forecasting results and insights to stakeholders, facilitating data-driven decision-making
  • Data Quality Assurance: Conduct thorough data cleaning and preprocessing to ensure high-quality datasets, addressing anomalies, missing values, and outliers effectively
  • Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams to gather requirements, integrate data from various sources (e.g., PI Process Book), and provide analytical support for operational improvements
What You Bring to the Role:
  • Currently enrolled in abachelor’s or master’s degree program in Engineering
  • Proven completion of formal training related to data science
  • Strong work ethic and positive attitude
  • A pre-employment drug and alcohol test must be successfully completed
