Job summary

Cella is seeking a skilled Design System Designer to design, document, and evolve reusable native mobile components for an innovative mobile application. You will ensure consistent, accessible experiences across iOS and Android and contribute to AI-ready design system assets and documentation.

This 6‑month contract role requires onsite work at our client's downtown Toronto office four days per week, collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to bridge design and implementation.

Qualifications

• Degree in design or equivalent practical experience.
• 3–5+ years of UX/UI design experience with design systems for native mobile apps (iOS and Android).
• Advanced proficiency in Figma (3+ years), including component libraries, tokens, and documentation.
• Deep knowledge of native iOS and Android design components and accessibility requirements.
• Proven ability to collaborate with design, engineering, and product teams.

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Design System Designer to design, document, and evolve reusable native mobile components and patterns for an innovative mobile application. In this role, you will play a key part in creating consistent, accessible, and scalable mobile experiences across both iOS and Android platforms. You will also contribute to the design system's AI readiness by helping build structured, reusable assets and documentation that support emerging AI-assisted design and development workflows.

This opportunity involves collaborating closely with cross-functional internal design and engineering teams to bridge the gap between design concepts and technical implementation.

This role is a 6 month contract, with possibility of extension beyond the initial contract term. It requires the talent to work onsite at our client's office in downtown Toronto 4 days per week.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain reusable native mobile components, patterns, variants, and interaction models for both iOS and Android.
• Define detailed component specifications, visual standards, interaction behaviors, accessibility requirements, and implementation guidance.
• Partner with designers, developers, and product teams to identify opportunities for standardization and reuse.
• Collaborate closely with engineering to ensure components are technically feasible, scalable, and accurately implemented.
• Conduct design reviews and Design QA to ensure adherence to design specifications, WCAG accessibility requirements, and design system standards.
• Create and maintain clear documentation, usage guidelines, and Figma libraries to support adoption and efficient use of the design system.
• Support design system governance, contribution models, and best practices to maintain overall quality and consistency.
• Contribute to AI-ready design system assets through structured documentation, semantic naming conventions, metadata, and reusable patterns that support AI-assisted design and development workflows.

Requirements

• Education: Degree in design, a design-related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
• Experience: 3–5+ years of experience in UX/UI design, with demonstrated expertise in building and maintaining design systems for native mobile applications (iOS and Android).
• Tooling: Advanced proficiency in Figma (minimum 3 years), including component libraries, variables, design tokens, auto layout, documentation, and scalable design system practices.
• Native Mobile Expertise: Deep knowledge of native iOS and Android design components, patterns, interaction models, accessibility requirements, and platform guidelines.
• Collaboration & Communication: Proven ability to communicate conceptual ideas, detailed designs, and rationales effectively, alongside a track record of close collaboration with development teams.
• Portfolio: A creative and visually compelling design portfolio demonstrating exceptional attention to detail, component behaviors, visual states, and edge cases.
• Accessibility: Practical experience with WCAG accessibility standards and mobile accessibility best practices.
• AI & Metadata Awareness: Understanding of AI-ready design system practices (such as semantic component naming, structured metadata, and reusable patterns) and familiarity with AI-assisted design workflows.
• Experience within the financial services or banking industry.

Nice-to-Have Qualifications

• Personal experience or interest in self-directed investing.
• Expertise using AI-driven tools (e.g., Figma AI, Microsoft Copilot) to generate or transform assets.
• Experience with design tokens, design-to-development workflows, or enterprise-scale design systems.
