Job summary

Save-On-Foods is hiring a Department Manager, Grocery for the Cumberland location in Saskatoon, SK. The role is full-time (40 hours weekly) with open availability required and involves leading the department, coaching a team, and delivering an exceptional customer experience.

You will drive merchandising, health and safety, and store profitability while engaging staff through training and performance management.

Qualifications

• 1–3 years of retail experience.
• Leadership experience is an asset.
• Food Safe Certification.
• Proficiency with computer applications.
• Experience achieving sales targets and merchandising plans.

Responsibilities

• Lead department and coach team to deliver customer-first service.
• Oversee operations, health and safety, food safety, and merchandising.
• Train and develop team members; manage performance and recognition.
• Communicate goals and KPIs to department staff.
• Review financial reports and drive sales and profitability.
• Oversee HR metrics and staffing planning; manage scheduling.
• Lead inventory counts and resolve issues; ensure safety.
• Perform all department duties, including lifting up to 50 lbs.

We are hiring a Department Manager, Grocery at our Cumberland Save-On-Foods location in Saskatoon, SK.

This is a full-time position, 40 hours per week, and the successful applicant must have open availability.

You will be responsible for:

• Leading the department, acting as a coach, mentor, and resource while fostering a positive team environment focused on Always Customer First service.
• Delivering operational excellence through customer experience, health and safety, food safety, and merchandising.
• Engaging and retaining team members through training, performance management, rewards/recognition, and succession planning.
• Communicating key messages and business objectives to team members in the department, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
• Reviewing and analyzing financial reports, identifying opportunities to improve performance, and presenting KPIs to the management team.
• Analyzing business/HR metrics and dashboards of the department.
• Supporting with implementing strategies to grow sales and customer loyalty.
• Leading inventory counts/period end of the department and resolving issues as required.
• Performing all job duties throughout the department as needed, including lifting weight (up to 50 lbs), standing for long periods of time, and working in hot/cold environments.

You have:

• 1-3 years of retail experience.
• Leadership experience is an asset.
• Food Safe Certification.
• A post-secondary education in a business related field is an asset.
• Experience and/or knowledge with: Achieving sales targets and profitability.
• Executing merchandising plans and creating in-store displays to drive sales.
• Human Resources (e.g. training, development, coaching and mentoring).
• Workforce planning and scheduling considerations.
• Health and safety policies, procedures, and safe work practices.
• Proficiency with computer applications.
