Damage Prevention Technician

About The Role

Damage Prevention Technicians locate underground utilities i.e., power lines, water lines, sewer lines, steam lines, gas lines, communication lines, and more, for a prescribed geography. Using company provided equipment, the Damage Prevention Technician will locate, mark (with spray paint and flags) and record electronically, underground utilities. A paid training program is provided.

Other Duties Include
  • Adhering to GTel company polices and procedures
  • Being a Safety Champion- ensuring safety rules and policies are followed at all times
  • Consulting with contractors, developers, builders, regarding locations of underground utilities
  • Providing excellent customer service to the public, contractors and utilities customers
  • Reading utility mapping and Engineer drawings, preparing reports and documentation verifying marked utilities
  • Marking, measuring and electronically drawing underground utilities
  • Safeguarding of company equipment and vehicle
  • Being adaptable to utility work such as Sewer Safety Inspections, Third Party Observations and Damage Investigations
Successful GTel Employees Will Have The Following Skills
  • The ability to work independently and manage a workload to meet necessary deadlines
  • Excellent customer services skills
  • Proficient use of a computer
  • The ability to problem solve and demonstrate good judgment as situations dictate
  • The ability to physically walk in and out of ditches, on uneven surfaces, lifting and loading equipment up to 9kg (20 lbs) in and out of the vehicle several times per day, carry/swing 20lbs of equipment while walking
  • The ability to work in all types of weather
  • Have a valid ‘G’ class Driver’s License and clean three (3) year Driver’s Abstract as this position includes a company vehicle for business purposes only
  • The ability to work weekends, on call and overtime as required
