Job summary

School District No. 60 (Peace River North) is seeking casual Custodians to perform cleaning and minor maintenance across district facilities on an as-needed basis.

Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor and Head Custodian, you will maintain safe facilities, follow WHMIS guidelines, and support evening user groups as required. The position starts as soon as possible with a base of eleven months per year and a starting wage of 24.94 CAD per hour.

Qualifications

• Candidate must have Grade 10 or equivalent.
• Experience in commercial/school cleaning preferred.
• Ability to read and follow written instructions and safety bulletins.
• Good interpersonal skills and able to work with the public.

Responsibilities

• Cleans and disinfects building interior, fixtures and windows.
• Secure doors and windows in their area.
• Perform minor maintenance on doors, windows, lamps, and fixtures.
• Organize the regular workday according to priorities; accommodate evening user groups.
• Assist with seasonal cleaning including stripping and waxing floors; wash walls and desks.
• Maintain and ensure tools and equipment are in good working order.
• Follow safety rules; ensure site is safe and equipment operated properly.
• Handle hazardous materials safely (WHMIS).
• Assume Head Custodian role if needed.
• Inform supervisors of vandalized equipment or property.
• Perform other duties as directed.

CUSTODIAN - CASUAL

Position Description:

There are positions available for casual Custodians with School District No. 60. Applications must be completed online and will be accepted on an ongoing basis until the positions are filled. Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor in cooperation with the siteAdministrative Officer(s), and overseen by the Head Custodian, this position is responsible for the custodial and minor building maintenance work in the cleaning of School District facilities.

Hours of work: On an as needed basis

Duties to Commence: As soon as possible after closing on an as needed basis

Work Year Base: Eleven (11) months per year

Commencing Salary: $24.94/hr.

Duties:

1. Cleans and disinfects building interior, fixtures and windows. This includes garbage removal, sweeping, vacuuming and wetmopping floors. Also performs some related cleaning duties to the exterior of the buildings and landings.
2. Responsible to secure doors and windows in their area.
3. Performs minor maintenance on doors, windows, lamps, schoolfurniture and other fixtures.
4. Overseen by the Head Custodian and under the general direction of the siteAdministrative Officer(s)/Supervisor, organizes theregular work day according to daily priorities. Must accommodate evening user groups.
5. Assists with seasonal clean ups which include stripping, scrubbing and waxing floors and washing walls, desks, furniture, etc.
6. Maintains and ensures tools and equipment are in good working order.
7. Follows proper safety rules and standards by ensuring the worksite is safe and secure, that equipment and vehicles are operated according to set standards.
8. Ensures the safe handling of hazardous materials (WHMIS) and the safe use and operation of equipment and hand tools.
9. Assumes the role of Head Custodian if needed.
10. Informs the Supervisor(s) and or siteAdministrative Officer(s) of vandalized equipment or property.
11. Performs other job related duties as directed by the siteAdministrative Officer(s)/Supervisor and Head Custodian.

Qualifications and Attributes:

• Grade 10 or equivalency
• Minimum 1 year of commercial cleaning or school cleaningexperience is preferred
• Ability to operate large, self-propelled auto scrubber and window cleaning equipment
• Valid Class 5 driver's license and accessto areliable vehicle may be required
• Reading comprehension of written instructions and safety bulletins
• Ability to workwith the public
• Must be well organized
• Ability to workindependently and set priorities
• Good interpersonal skills and the ability to be an integral part of a team
• WHMIS Certificate and other onlinesafety training providedby theDistrict to be completed within the probationary period
• Otherapplicable safety training and/or certification as providedby the Districtto be completed asneeded
• Must be able to pass a Vulnerable Sector Criminal Records Search conducted by the District prior to staring employment
