Casual Culinary Services Worker

Description of Duties

Luther College at the University of Regina (www.luthercollege.edu/university) invites applications for a casual term position in the Luther College Cafeteria beginning in September 2026 until December 31, 2026, with the possibility of extension. Reporting to the Manager of Food Services, the Culinary Services Worker supports cafeteria operations with various kitchen and sanitation tasks. This position description encompasses roles previously categorized as Counter Attendant, Cafeteria Assistant, Cafeteria Worker, Food Services Worker, Dishwasher, Salad Bar Attendant and General Help. This is a casual position with shifts scheduled on an as-needed basis.

Responsibilities

• Serving of food in the cafeteria, at catered events, and for other functions as required, typically for between 150-500 people at once;
• Assist with preparing ingredients by washing and chopping/peeling vegetables etc;
• Comply with nutrition and sanitation guidelines;
• General cleaning duties within kitchen and dinning room spaces and taking out the trash;
• Keeping food properly dated and rotated to maintain safety and freshness standards at all times;
• Clean and maintain cooking equipment;
• Wash and sanitize dishes for a large number of people;
• Operation of POS (Point of Sales) System and accurately processing various forms of payment (cash, debit, credit card, meal card or sign-in sheets);
• Adhere to and maintain a respectful workplace as per the Luther College Respectful University Policy and Procedures;
• Complete other tasks as assigned by the Manager of Culinary Operations.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is desirable;
• A demonstrated commitment to employee health and safety practices and procedures is required and knowledge of cleaning materials and chemicals used in the College and the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS);
• Experience operating equipment such as dishwashers, mixing machines, ovens, toasters and similar equipment typically found in a cafeteria environment;
• Being flexible with frequent schedule and menu changes;
• Being organized, friendly, patient, reliable and hardworking;
• Excellent customer service oriented perspective with both internal and external clients;
• A proven ability to work both independently and as part of a team is required;
• Physical fitness including the ability to periodically lift moderately heavy loads in a safe manner;
• As this position may interact with students, a criminal record check will be required;
• Affinity with the goals of Luther College and the small college environment in which flexibility, warmth, and cordiality are necessary and valued.

Environment

This position is routinely in contact with students, faculty, staff, and senior administration as well as conference and catering guests. External contacts may include delivery personnel, inspectors from regulatory bodies, and the general public.

Work Hours

The position requires shift work including a combination of evening and weekend hours. Working hours can be irregular and extended hours will be required from time to time.

Salary and Benefits

The starting salary range for this position is $16.79.
