Job summary

Vaco by Highspring is seeking an experienced accountant to own full-cycle accounting for multiple entities, support corporate consolidations, forecasting, cash flow management, and investment reporting. The role includes month-end close, intercompany reconciliations, AHST/payments, and management reporting within a small finance team.

The ideal candidate has 3+ years of general and corporate accounting, strong Excel skills, and solid analytical abilities.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in general accounting, full-cycle accounting, corporate accounting, or financial reporting.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles, including journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, balance sheets, and financial statement preparation.
  • Advanced Excel skills, including formulas, linked schedules, reconciliations, financial reporting templates, and financial modelling.
  • Strong attention to detail and analytical skills, with the ability to identify and investigate variances or unusual transactions.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and work independently in a small finance team.
  • Strong communication skills and sound accounting judgment.
  • Consolidation experience is considered an asset.
  • Cash flow forecasting/reporting experience is considered an asset.
  • Sage experience is considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Perform full-cycle month-end accounting for assigned corporate and non-operating entities, including journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and trial balance maintenance.
  • Review, record, and reconcile intercompany, accounts receivable, and accounts payable transactions.
  • Prepare monthly financial reporting schedules and analyze results, variances, and unusual items.
  • Prepare and submit HST returns for assigned entities.
  • Maintain supporting documentation for management reporting, audits, banking requirements, and external stakeholders.
  • Support collections, disbursements, and related follow-up as required.
  • Identify opportunities to improve the accuracy, efficiency, and timeliness of accounting and reporting processes.
  • Assist with finance projects, process improvements, and ad-hoc reporting.
  • Maintain and update 36-month rolling forecasts for assigned non-operating entities, including income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow assumptions.
  • Consolidate the financial results of smaller operating companies at the corporate level using Excel.
  • Prepare and update group consolidation schedules, including intercompany eliminations and supporting schedules.
  • Prepare monthly group-level consolidation reporting and analyze actual versus forecast results.
  • Monitor group-level bank balances and daily cash activity.
  • Maintain daily cash flow reporting, including expected receipts, scheduled disbursements, payroll funding, loan activity, and short-term liquidity requirements.
  • Prepare and maintain a three-month cash flow forecast to support liquidity planning and identify working capital requirements.
  • Ensure cash flow projections are aligned with the latest approved forecast and business assumptions.
  • Prepare weekly cash flow updates for senior management as required.
  • Escalate cash flow and liquidity matters requiring management attention.
  • Maintain quarterly investment reporting schedules using external investment statements and supporting documentation.
  • Update fair market values, distributions, realized and unrealized gains/losses, and other investment activity.
  • Reconcile investment balances to supporting statements and investigate unusual variances.
  • Prepare investment reporting summaries for management review.

Job description

Key Responsibilities
