Job summary

Vaco by Highspring is seeking a Senior Accountant, Financial Reporting for a 15-month engagement in the Calgary area. You will manage the full month-end close, ensure accurate financial reporting, and support internal stakeholders.

The role requires CPA designation, 5+ years’ accounting experience (2+ in industry), strong Excel, and familiarity with Oracle. Energy retail experience is a plus.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of accounting experience with at least 2 in industry.
• CPA designation or equivalent required.
• Strong proficiency with Excel.
• Experience with Oracle is a plus.
• Energy retail sector experience is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Complete full month-end accounting cycle, including journal entries, accruals, account reconciliations, and financial reporting.
• Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial results and management reporting packages.
• Analyze transaction activity, settlements, and financial variances, identifying and resolving discrepancies as required.
• Provide financial analysis, reporting, and ad hoc support to business stakeholders.
• Liaise with the internal and external audit teams to ensure timely and accurate audits.
• Maintain audit-ready working papers and support internal and external audit processes.
• Interpret and apply accounting standards, corporate policies, and internal controls to business transactions.
• Collaborate with FP&A on budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities.
• Prepare regulatory and government filings, ensuring accuracy and compliance with established deadlines.
• Support process improvements, special projects, and other duties consistent with the scope of the role.

• CPA designation or other internationally recognized professional accounting designation is required
• Strong proficiency in excel
• Experience with Oracle is considered an asset but not required
• Industry experience in the energy retail sector is an asset but not required
