Location: 65, Dundas St. East

The Community Worker is required to work Saturdays and Sundays from 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Site Supervisors, the Community Worker works proactively and responsively with tenants and staff at 65 Dundas St E to ensure the operational success of the supportive housing program, supporting tenants in maintaining their housing and enhancing their quality of life.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Support health and safety by adhering to housing rules and regulations, including Guest Policy and community standards.
  • Maintain a presence at the front desk and monitor community activities.
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure community safety.
  • Work with the Community Safety Team to monitor building safety.
  • Support programming and daily support of tenants, responding to support needs on-site and with the case management team.
  • Enforce building rules and remind tenants and guests of their responsibilities.
  • Promote good communication and excellent customer service.
  • Report concerns to management to prevent community disruptions.
  • Build rapport, support, and advocate for clients, including those using substances and with health challenges.
  • Develop relationships with community agencies.
  • Participate in case conferences as needed.
  • Perform administrative duties such as answering calls, managing intake, and providing information.
  • Offer supportive counseling and crisis management when necessary.
  • Arrange home visits and accompany tenants to appointments.
  • Advocate for tenants and inform them of their rights and responsibilities.
  • Monitor and document community programs, maintaining case notes and tenant files.
Qualifications
  • Experience in Housing Support Work, Shelter Work, or Harm Reduction/Mental Health Support.
  • Degree or diploma in social services or equivalent experience.
  • Two years of related experience in supportive housing, crisis support, substance use, mental health, or counseling.
  • Knowledge of social issues related to homelessness, mental illness, and substance use.
  • Understanding of the Residential Tenancies Act is an asset.
  • Knowledge of community resources and harm reduction strategies.
  • Ability to observe and support individuals using substances.
  • Strong advocacy and therapeutic skills.
  • Excellent English communication skills; additional languages are a plus.
  • Familiarity with community agencies and services.
  • Self-directed, independent, and team-oriented.
  • Good judgment, flexibility, creativity, and sensitivity.
  • Intermediate MS Office skills.
  • First Aid & CPR certification is an asset.
  • Crisis Prevention and Intervention training is an asset.
  • Legal authorization to work in Canada and ability to pass a Vulnerable Sector Screening.
  • Up-to-date COVID-19 vaccinations.
