Horn Youth Services Foundation (KULAN) is a charitable organization dedicated to supporting the growth and empowerment of East African and Black communities in Edmonton. We provide essential services, safe spaces, and programs that foster resilience, belonging, and opportunity for youth and families.

Position Overview:

KULAN is seeking a dedicated Part-Time Community Support Worker to join our team. This role will involve working closely with newcomers, youth, and families to provide social support, advocacy, and resources that promote community well-being. In addition to providing direct support, the successful candidate will oversee KULAN’s programs and involvement in the "Building Safer Communities" project, in collaboration with FOCAS and Sinkunia. The ideal candidate will be fluent in both English and Somali and have experience working with diverse communities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct support and advocacy for newcomers, youth, and families in need.
  • Coordinate KULAN’s role in the "Building Safer Communities" project, in collaboration with FOCAS and Sinkunia.
  • Connect individuals to essential resources, including housing, employment, education, and other services.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports on client interactions and program outcomes.
  • Assist in developing culturally responsive programming that meets the needs of the community.

Qualifications:

  • Degree or background in Social Work, Human Services, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working with communities and newcomers.
  • Fluency in English and Somali (spoken and written) is required.
  • Strong understanding of newcomer challenges, settlement processes, and social services.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Experience handling sensitive cases with confidentiality and professionalism.
  • A valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle are considered assets.

Additional Assets:

  • Excellent communication and writing skills .
  • Experience in report writing and grant applications.
  • Strong interpersonal and conflict-resolution skills.
